Junior School

This week I had the pleasure of taking the Junior School leaders to St Paul’s Grammar School for the HICES Leadership Day. The children were encouraged, challenged and equipped to think about their role as a leader and how they could serve the other children in our school. Their behavior was impeccable and they represented our school fabulously.

There are so many opportunities for the children in the Junior School to lead and serve others. At Springwood campus this week, Robbie and Christian led assembly so capably, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for students to practice their public speaking skills.

Lorelei, a student in Year 1 performed on the piano and Kindergarten students spoke about their learning in Art and STEAM. The students all did beautifully with presenting to their peers and the staff were so proud.

At Wentworth Falls, preparation for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is well underway! Students have been practicing their lines, songs and dances, and they have even been designing and sewing their own costumes. Information will be coming soon about how to purchase tickets, and we hope everyone can make it to one of the shows!

Basketball Report, Term 2, Week 4

On Monday, 16th May, the BMGS Swish played the Eagles and were defeated 11 to 25. Angus Magill joined our team this week and his experience and shooting skills were welcome. Angus, Thomas Hyslop and William Harris were our goal scorers but, as always, teamwork is an essential component to making that happen. The boys had to work really hard to stop their opposition scoring. Their opposition were the winners of the competition last season and had experience on their side. In typical Grammar fashion, the boys celebrated each goal and showed excellent sportsmanship. We had an especially exciting finish to the game when Thomas Hyslop took a shot with only a second left on the clock and it went in!

On Tuesday, 17th May, the BMGS Stars focused on dribbling and fast running during their training session. They were also learning how to protect the ball while dribbling by having their bar arm up and moving their body to be between the ball and their opposition.

During our game time this week, our team all got to stay together to compete against two other teams in the mini games. Our first game resulted in a win with lots of fast breaking and even some layups and our second game was a loss. Sebastian Nicholls, Madeline Russell and Claire Rutherford were our main shooters but as always, they could only work their magic with some awesome defending and super-fast dribbling and passing from their team mates. Christian McHugh and Sebastian Nicholls did a great job turning over the play with their defending. I have been so impressed to see the quick development and enthusiasm of the players.
