Aboriginal Student Program

Reconciliation Week

This week we’ve flown the Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Flag in Carigg Court as recognition of National Reconciliation Week. Last year, Reconciliation Australia encouraged all Australians to take action; not just in National Reconciliation Week but every week of the year.

At Trinity College we encourage all students no matter what their background to be “Be Proud, Be Bold, and Be the Difference”, in order to make a more just and equitable Australia.

Indigenous Football Round

Last weekend Trinity played Hale in the PSA Indigenous Football Round. The 1st XVIII Football team is proud to have Tryse Rioli (Whadjuk Noongar, Tiwi and Larrakia), Aaron Hubert (Yindjibarndi), Kaleb Rodriguez (Nykinia), and Mr Callum Walley (Whadjuk and Ballardong Noongar) represent the College in the game.

The College's Indigenous Round Jumper was designed in 2014 by artist Kevin Bynder. The jumper symbolises the many cultures, religions and ethnicities that come together to contribute to the diversity that makes the TC community unique. The game opened with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by Noongar Elder Neville Collard. Although TC didn’t get the result on the day, Tryse Rioli was best on ground for Trinity with 4 goals.

On this special occasion, I would like to acknowledge those Aboriginal TC Old Boys who have gone on to play football at the highest level in the VFL/AFL - Gary Malarkey ('70), Sharod Wellingham ('05), Josh Hill ('06), Jeff Garlett ('06) and Ashley Sampi ('05).
