Pink Sock Day - Save the Date!

On Saturday 11th June, Trinity College will take part in their 7th annual Pink Sock Day for the McGrath Foundation. The event will see all 1st teams representing the College wearing pink socks in their sporting fixtures against Scotch College at Waterford Playing Fields.

Through Pink Sock Day we hope to support women’s health, focusing on our mothers and all the women who encourage us through school and life in general, all whilst educating young Trinity men to demonstrate a greater awareness and appreciation towards women's health. Most importantly we aim to raise money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. Every donation big or small counts. If you would like to donate before the event, you can do so at the link below.

We encourage the Trinity community to gather as one in support of a great cause and make a gold coin donation on arrival. There will also be a Pink Ball Raffle to support, along with a pink morning tea and sausage sizzle available thanks to our Friends of Footy. All 1st team players will be pulling on the pink socks, and we encourage all spectators to wear PINK in support of the McGrath Foundation and come down for what is always a great morning of sport!

St. Vinnie’s Week

This week our Year 8s did their bit to raise awareness for St. Vinnie’s charity group. The St Vincent de Paul Society assists people experiencing poverty and inequality and works to shape a more just and compassionate society.

In order to support such a great cause, the Year 8 PCG Student Leaders created a roster for donations to be brought in during PCG time as well as coordinating a dodgeball competition at lunchtime to help raise money. Thank you to all the Trinity families for donating and contributing to such a good cause!

The Senior Ethics Olympiad

On Monday, six Year 10 students - Isaac Adamos, Nicholas Bowden-Jones, Lachlan Brown, Joshua Gonzalez, Ryan Murphy, and Sebastian Foti – participated in the Senior Ethics Olympiad via Zoom.

The Ethics Olympiad provides students with a unique opportunity to develop skills in critical thinking, collaboration and communication. This year, our boys competed against teams from Singapore, India and Perth. This was only the second time that our boys have competed, and while we did not receive a medal, we received an honourable mention. It was a pleasure watching the boys work collaboratively, and then deliver articulate and considered responses with very little think time.

Questions for discussion came from the following topics:

  • University Admission by Lottery
  • Anti-Natalism
  • Homophobic Discrimination and Freedom of Speech
  • Statues
  • Something Fishy about the Para-Olympics
  • Wholesome discipline
  • Killer Art
  • The Medical Brain Drain

If you are interested in participating in future Olympiads, please send me an email at firkins.donette@trinity.wa.edu.au.

Prefect Perspectives

A mixed bag of emotions as we exit the exam period for Year 12s, although the most common is unsurprisingly relief. Over sixty written, practical, or oral exams have been conducted over the past two weeks - the culmination of weeks of preparation. And believe it or not, this marks the halfway point for the Class of 2022. Luckily, with WA Day on Monday, students will have an extended weekend to reset for the next unit’s new content.

A bye this coming Saturday gives our sporting teams at least four sessions to train between the last game against Hale and week seven’s fixture against Scotch, a time well appreciated after last week’s results to adjust and adapt to head into the second half of the winter season strong.

Next week, the Year 11s will begin their week of Christian Service, a valuable experience that allows students to engage with the community and put themselves out there. Most will be spread across primary schools and op shops likes Salvos where they will replace their usual classes and study with assisting around classrooms and store logistics. I remember having high school helpers at my primary school and they were the coolest – essentially celebrities - and now is the time to pass on the experience and challenge yourself to be the best part of someone else’s day.

Week 7 also marks the busy examination period for Year 10 students with Year 8s and 9s having their exams the following week – for some, their first assessments longer than a test!

Good luck to all who are yet to complete exams, Year 8s through 10s and those senior students who are sitting catch-up assessments in the near future. May all your hard work be rewarded.
