From the Classroom

Grade 2

In the Grade 2 classroom we are enjoying reading all about different types of dinosaurs. We have also been writing Information Reports about these dinosaurs. Students have had the opportunity to use books from Epic to research the Triceratops and display their information on a poster. In Numeracy we have learnt so much about 2D and 3D shapes! We know how to identify the features (faces, edges and vertices) of 3D shapes. Well done to all of the grade 2's for their enthusiasm towards this topic.

Grade 3

It’s great to be back. I would like to thank everyone for all the support and for taking care and guiding the Grade 3 children with their learning, while I have been away.

This week the children have been learning the following;

Reading:  the children have been learning the decoding strategy of skip and return. They have been practising this skill with the support of reading prompts.

Writing: all children completed a writing piece on their own personal traits. Handwriting and forming letters correctly has continued weekly. We have done some more work on contractions.

Maths: Addition and the part, part, whole method has been the main focus. The children have also been working on transformation, turning and drawing shapes with quarter, half and three quarter turns.

Chemical Science: The children have been learning about how a thermal camera detects heat and the many reasons as to why people would use this type of device.

I would like to begin homework this coming Monday 23rd May. There was a reading logbook handed out by Ms Anset the other week. Would you be able to please return this logbook on the same day.

Music with Mrs Sibio

Students have been listening to classical music pieces and responding in a variety of ways. Across the grades we have listened to The Nutcracker, the William Tell Overture, Carnival of the Animals, the Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Handel’s ‘Surprise Symphony’. Students have used musical instruments to play along with the songs and listened to the dynamics and rhythm of the pieces. Foundation students have been working on rhythm through the story Handa’s Surprise.

Grade 6 composing using instruments.

You Can Do It with Mrs Sibio

This term we are looking at Relationships. We have covered topics such as Getting Along, Accepting Others and are talking about ways we can manage situations where getting along is harder, such as encountering peer pressure. We have had some thoughtful discussions about accepting differences and conflict resolution. We continue to practice our breathing strategies for cooling down and giving us space to Think First before we react to a situation. Here’s one below that you can practice at home!
