Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Welcome to Week 4. Last week was quite busy with cross country runs and NAPLAN.

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

Where possible, students are being encouraged to walk to school tomorrow. What is Walk Safely to School Day all about? Walk Safely to School Day will be celebrated on Friday 20th May 2022. It aims to improve the environment and our daily exercise routines. Walking to school is the perfect way to start the day by getting some exercise and fresh air, ready to start school with a clear mind.

GOULBURN MURRAY CROSS COUNTRY

Last Friday, Toolamba Primary School had 21 students run in the Goulburn Murray Division Cross Country at Princess Park in Shepparton. Only students who finished in the top 12 progressed to the next stage. We had quite a few runners in the top 20, but sadly no one made the top 12. Well done to the following students for representing our school Scott Moran, Dustin Varcoe, Nyla Anderson, Sophie Bryant, Delilah Thomas, Ava Giles, Lara Sawyer, Teagan Roberts, Lachlan Sorraghan, Bailey Davies, Arya Monks, Mia Hodgkisson, Lexie Kelly-Ferguson, Indie Giles, Jack Hughes, Kaide Anderson, Tom Crawford, Chase Brisbane, Angus McNaughton, Archie Brisbane and Andrew Shaw. We did have a number of other students who qualified, but due to illness were not able to take their place on Friday.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Our Breakfast Club was well attended on Wednesday morning with students enjoying either toast, Weetbix or spaghetti to start the day.

WINTER SPORT

Tomorrow, many Grade 5 and 6 students will be representing our school in Goulburn Murray Division Winter Sports. This year our students elected to participate in mixed netball and football. Our football team will be assisted by a number of players from Murchison Primary School. We hope that the students have a great time playing against the other schools. For those wanting to watch tomorrow come along between 10am and 1pm, the footballers will be at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve and the netballers will be at the McEwen Reserve Courts.

RAPID ANTIGEN TESTING

There have been some changes made to the to the provision of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) in our school for the remainder of Term 2.

RATs will continue to be distributed to you as they have been throughout this school year for the remainder of this term.

However, from Monday 23rd May 2022, students will no longer be recommended to undertake either twice weekly RATs in mainstream schools or 5 days a week in specialist schools.

RATs however will continue to be required by students who are household contacts to attend school (5 negative tests over a 7-day period) or who have symptoms.

The ongoing supply of RATs to families in our school will ensure that parents and carers will have them should they need them if their child is a household contact or has symptoms.

Families must continue to notify the Department of Health and the school if their child returns a positive RAT result. Additionally, you should inform us if any of your children are household contacts.

LITTLE LEARNERS LOVE LITERACY

Currently staff across the school have been participating in this professional learning. The Little Learners Love Literacy resources and professional learning workshops support explicit and systematic teaching of reading and spelling. Strategies from this professional learning is being embedded into classroom practice. Many students across the school have loved having access to decodable readers associated with these strategies.

JSC FUNDRAISING

Dhurringile Prison has kindly donated bags of kindling for the school to sell as a fundraiser. The 6kg bags will sell for $5 a bag, they contain an assortment of kindling sizes. Bags can be purchased from the Office. Proceeds from the sales will go towards additional games to add to our lunch time activities.

Have an enjoyable weekend.

Regards Heather
