Sports Round-Up

Swimming Carnival

This year's swimming carnival bought out the competitive spirit not only in our students, but in our teachers too. The annual students versus teachers relay saw a triumphant teacher team claim victory. Mr Kiely won the award for sports house patriotism with his inflatable yellow costume, and many records were given a nudge. Ultimately it was Merah who took out the honours for 2022 with a score of 379 to Namoi's 304.

Rugby League

Congratulations to Jackson Humphries, Clay Hoffman and Mekhi Ross for qualifying for the Namoi Rugby League team in the NSW trials.

Netball

Congratulations to our ten students who attended the Namoi Zone Opens girls netball trials in Narrabri recently, they put in a terrific effort. Every team member played extremely well with four players, Lucy, Megan, Brittney and Matilda selected to represent WWHS at the North West trials in Armidale.

Olympic Gold Medallist Visits WWHS

Students recently benefitted greatly from a visit by Olympic gold medal trap shooter, Suzy Balogh OAM. Suzy has had impressive sporting success, most notably winning gold at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and also at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She also has a string of bronze medals to her name.

Our students responded excitedly to Suzy's visit and she spoke with them at length about goal setting and how this was key to her sporting success. She also encouraged students to focus on finding what they are good at and focusing on it. Special thanks to Maths Teacher, Mrs Killerby-Smith for arranging for Suzy to visit.

Touch Football

Congratulations to Megan Crutcher, Taylor Horne, Georgia Horne and Matilda Currey who attended the NSW CHSSA U15 touch football championships recently at Tomaree and played in the North West Region team.

Sydney Royal Easter Show

Congratulations to Year 11 student, Josie Galagher and former WWHS student, Olivia Wilson who competed at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The girls competed in the Team of 4s for Zone 5 pony club, then in the Pair of Riders (Zone 5 Pony Club) and placed 3rd. Both Josie and Olivia competed in their riding class and whilst being extremely happy with how they performed, they didn’t place.

Polocrosse

There was a lot of local interest focused on the Australian National Polocrosse Championships in Ballarat, Victoria in late March. WWHS had two players in the NSW Junior teams including Year 9 student, Johnny Brodigan (3rd mixed junior team) and Year 10 student, Brittney Schwager (2nd mixed junior team).

Johnny and Brittney were selected to represent NSW as part of the three NSW junior teams. Each team consists of eight players, four males and four females, with only six players on the field at any time.

Competition was over six days and by all reports, both Johnny and Brittney played very well. For both Brittney and Johnny, this is the highest level they can currently compete at. At 16 years they will qualify for the intermediate team, and from age 21 they would be considered seniors.

Basketball

Congratulations to Year 12 student Jordan Lonnen. After starring in the Wee Waa High School Knockout Team, he travelled to Tamworth to trial for the North West team. Jordan played well and represented our school with pride. Great work Jordan!
