Principal's Message
Principal’s Message
The year is moving quickly and planning for our new school is moving closer to works commencing on the selected site.
I would like to formally welcome Sarah Trevaksis as our new TAS teacher. We are fortunate to have been able to secure a new TAS staff member and Sarah has already settled into the school and the Wee Waa community.
WWHS has been involved in a series of Connecting with Country workshops that bring together local Gomeroi community members and our student representatives to share their thoughts on the best way to reflect Wee Waa’s Gomeroi heritage in the new school design. Workshops are facilitated by Katie Moore, a Wiradyuri woman with extensive experience in embedding Indigenous design into building design and in partnering with Aboriginal communities across Australia to empower economic opportunities. The workshops are also attended by the project’s architect, SHAC who will work with local Aboriginal community members to incorporate the outcomes into the final design.
Next week a second series of Connecting with Country workshops will he held, along with the next community briefing on the new Wee Waa High School development project. Further details on this briefing are included in this newsletter. I encourage all students, parents and the broader community to come along to hear from the architects, builders and project managers. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have about the project.
As you will see in this newsletter, our students have been taking part in a diverse array of initiatives and opportunities in addition to the core curriculum. From sport to International Women’s Day, Senior Citizens Week and a university experience program, our teachers ensure students have the opportunity to explore areas of talent and interest so that they receive the most rounded education we can provide.
I would like to acknowledge the extra lessons our staff take to ensure our students are involved in as many activities as we can manage, along with the time to coach and prepare students for activities that add to their growth and development. We have a dedicated team of teaching professionals and support staff here at Wee Waa High School and I am grateful for the commitment they give to our school.
Yours sincerely
Annabel Doust
