MPS Prep Classes

CAMELOT TRAFFIC SCHOOL

On Thursday 12  May, the prep students were bursting with excitement and ready to zoom (safely) round Camelot Traffic School.

As a part of our current unit of inquiry, Where we are in place and time, prep students are inquiring into how communities function and the role that people play in the community.

First the students explored the school community and then the local Murrumbeena community.

After doing this inquiry, back at school students set up their own community in the classroom. Students have created their own bank, supermarket, ice cream shop, doctors, vet, dentist and hairdressers. Using different craft materials the students have set up these spaces so they can role play both service provider customer/client.  After creating all these spaces we needed to inquire as to how we can connect them all. That is when traffic school came into play.

By understanding road safety students will be able to connect all these spaces and move safety between them.

At Camelot Traffic School, students brought their cars that they made at home (thanks Prep Families) and learnt all about how to be safe around the cars as a pedestrian. We watched a great song by High 5 about stop, look and listen and shared the rules we know and how best to keep safe. After this sit down session it was finally time to drive our cars. Students followed road rules and began to understand how to follow traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and roundabouts. Students were both the pedestrian and the car driver.

We had so much fun on this excursion and the students learnt so much. Thank you to our fantastic prep community who helped our students build the cars and also to those parents who were able to volunteer and support us on the day.
