Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Carer’s,

What a fantastic week we've had here at Sacred Heart School.

Congratulations to all students for participating in the various Eisteddfod events across Narrabri and Gunnedah. I have been so impressed by the willingness of students to have a go.  It is never easy to stand up in front of a large group of people and the courage that has been displayed is magnificent.

Congratulations to Gian and Matilda for beginning their pathway to taking their First Eucharist by particpating in the enrolment mass over the weekend. We look forward to you making your First Eucharist in a few weeks time.

I also wish to update you on our learning agenda happening at Sacred Heart. As we discussed earlier in the year, one of our Annual Improvement Plan goals for 2022 is around providing students with intervention opportiunities to enhance their learning. Our students across K-6 are about to enter their next intervention cycle for Term 2. At the beginning, during and at the end of each intervention, students are assessed to ensure we are providing an individualised approach to their learning. Students engage in up to five intervention cycles each term. Interventions are currently occurring across K-6 in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing. The more specific focus areas can include: reading, writing, comprehension, language development, working mathematically, problem solving, collaborating with others and social skills. The benefits for our students is that they can receive a specific learning and teaching approach that allows them to engage with curriculum in an individualised manner,  meaningful to them. 

Term 2 will see the first school report for the year sent home. It is important for parents to have conversation with their children about the purpose of a school report and how it can assist in goal setting for future learning. Goal setting has been a focus in our classrooms this term to assist students in having voice and agency in their learning. 

Also the next  meeting of the Sacred Heart PTF will take place on Tuesday 14 June at 5:30pm. All are welcome.

Finally, as our Transition to school program continues each Thursday, it is so lovely to see our new friends settling so nicely here at Sacred Heart. If you know of anyone intending to enrol for 2023 please encourage them to contact me at the school.
