Prep-Year 3 Highlights 

Year 3 N

This term in 3N we have been working very hard on our writing. We have been looking at the story Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley. This has helped to inspire some fantastic pieces of writing from persuasive letters to descriptive passages. We created these amazing pieces of writing by drawing and sketching Lizard Street from the story as well as mind mapping. We believe if you can’t say it, you can’t write it. In terms of Maths, we have been looking at multiplication and division. It is exceptionally important that we understand what we are learning by doing. It’s also more fun!

Year 3 S

3S is having a lot of fun in Term 2. We have been learning about Australian celebrations in Humanities. We have celebrated National Sorry Day on 26th May by expressing our apology to the Stolen Generations.

Year 2 C

In Science Year 2's are learning about the forces of push and pull. They made car launchers out of shoe boxes and elastic bands. Then they measured how far the car went using hand spans. We are also learning about simple machines. They made a lever which pushed a car and a pully to lift a bucket.

Year 2 F 

Year 2F have been learning about units of measurement in maths so far this term. They have gone through concepts like length, area, capacity, and mass. When going through the concept of mass, students had the opportunity of using coat hangers and cups, to demonstrate how the mass of different objects can be measured by informal units like unifix cubes or rocks and record their findings. 

Year 2 D

Year 2D have been studying push and pull forces. They were busy making a toy car launcher to investigate how car a toy car could go using a rubber band, paper clips and a shoebox. 

Year 1 W

Recently students participated in an outdoor learning activity and worked together on partitioning 2 digit numbers. Students were given a magic number and asked to show all the ways they could make it in two groups.

1G

We have settled happily into our new classroom and have been exploring the whiteboard tables!

In Science, we have been exploring light and sound. We are currently working together on creating a puppet show that uses sound and light. 

1C

Year 1C happily settled into their new classroom. They works in pairs to create shapes and write their properties. During our Math lessons,  they worked in pairs to use popsicle sticks to create two-dimensional shapes and write all about their properties. Students then checked each other’s creations to compare, contrast and learn from each other.

Preps 

Our Preps have been learning about different materials and their properties in our Science lesson.  Last week after listening to the story of “The Three Little Pigs”, the children were given a team task to design and construct their houses using different materials.  During the process they have to plan, design, build, test and evaluate their ideas.  What a fun way to explore ideas and develop problem solving skills through teamwork.  Look at the houses that our young architects and builders have designed and built!  Let’s try to huff and puff and see if you can blow them down!
