PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Dear Parents and Carers,

Again welcome back.  I am very excited to now be an official member of the Chilwell community and look forward to the year ahead.

As mentioned in my email the other day, I worked extensively with staff last week around setting up a positive climate for learning, inclusive practices and excellence in teaching and learning.  The work in this area is ongoing, we have set our goals for the year, and I have outlined these below.

Priority Area 1:

Learning  – support both those who need scaffolding and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning, especially in numeracy

Action: -

  1. Develop clear and consistent instructional models and embed them across the school
  2. Build staff capacity to use the instructional models to meet individual learning needs of all students

Outcomes: -

- Students will know how lessons are structured and how this supports their learning

- Students will know the next steps to progress their learning

- Teachers will confidently and accurately identify student learning needs to differentiate learning

- Teachers will provide opportunities through Student Voice and Agency

for students to contribute ideas and build their understandings in order

to articulate their learning

- Leaders will support teaching staff to build assessment and differentiation practices through clear processes and professional learning

Priority Area 2:

Wellbeing – effectively mobilise available resources to support students' wellbeing and mental health, especially the most vulnerable.

Actions: -

  1. Develop a whole school approach to Mental Health, Wellbeing, and Inclusion

Outcomes: -

- Students will be able to explain what positive mental health means and where they can seek support at Chilwell Primary School

- Students will begin to demonstrate actions and use language that promotes inclusion

- Teachers will demonstrate an understanding of how a focus on Mental Health and Inclusion can improve student wellbeing and outcomes

- Teachers, leaders, and the school community will share a common understanding of the whole school approach to wellbeing and inclusion

- Leaders will support the development, documentation, and revision of a whole school approach to wellbeing

COMMUNICATIONS @ CHILWELL

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those that completed the communication survey that was sent out last term.  It was great to receive so much valuable feedback to review, which has enabled us to put actions into place that will support the clarification of communication channels and ensure we are all ‘starting right’ this year.  Feedback was overwhelmingly positive with some relevant and practical suggestions for areas that we can develop and clarify.

Positives shared consisted of statements such as:-

  • Confident that if anything needed to be communicated it is
  • Happy with what is presented
  • Confidence in the capacity of teaching and admin staff.

Areas for development consisted mainly around:-

  • clarification and purpose of communication channels
  • consistency amongst staff with the way in which they communicate
  • access to staff email addresses
  • a breakdown of the year ahead in regard to Parent and Teacher Interviews, Meet and Greets, Reports etc.
  • greater consistency on SEESAW, what is posted and the amount of uploads.

As a staffing group we analysed the data and agreed on actions together supporting the feedback:-

  1. Later this week, all families will receive clear information pertaining to the use of SEESAW and Showbie to showcase learning and Sentral, a platform for administration purposes.
  2. Along with face-to-face conversations and phone calls, all parents will now have access to staff email addresses. A whole school procedure around email communications is to be reviewed and implemented imminently.
  3. All teaching staff are working on the completion of agreed upon protocols regarding the use of SEESAW, SHOWBIE and the number of uploads to ensure consistency amongst staff
  4. During the week of February 13th all families will receive an outline of the year ahead, explaining ‘Meet and Greets’, ‘Three Way interviews’, reports etc. This email will also outline known dates for the year ahead.

CHILWELL FAIR FRIDAY MARCH 31st 2023

Thank you to  parents that completed the survey offering to coordinate or assist with this event.  An email will be sent later today to those parents, and ask if there are any other parents keen to assist, can you contact the office please.  We have a lot to do in only 8 weeks.  I am very excited to experience my first Chilwell Fair.

Sorry for the information overload, but we have a lot to communicate early in order to be clear in our intent and purpose this year, to work in collaboration and partnership with families to support all students.

Have a fabulous week,

Meg
