 Term 4, Week 10

Sports Report with Mr. Butland

Sport Report - Term 10, Week 4

Over the past few weeks, we have concluded our 2022 Sports Program with the BPSSA Girls AFL Day, BPSSA Cricket Round Robin, the final Staff V Students Soccer game and the final Forest Run attempts for the year. In what has been an amazing year of achievements for our school, we could not be prouder of the level of commitment to Sport this year from all of our students and look forward to reflecting on our accomplishments as the year comes to an end.

BPSSA Cricket Carnival

On November 4th, our Grade 5/6s walked to Robinsons Park to participate in a Cricket Carnival against other schools within the Bayside District. Having had a range of warm-up sessions, the students were eager to showcase their cricketing skills that they had learnt over the previous weeks of PE. Coming up against some experienced cricketers, our students represented our school extremely well and displayed great levels of sportsmanship throughout the day. The 5/6 Boys' team managed to go undefeated throughout the day and the Girls finished in 4th place. Great work to all teachers and staff involved, this was a great event to take part in.

BPSSA Girls Footy Day

On November 18th, Our 5/6s Girls attended Overport Park to participate in a Girls AFL Day. Greeted by a range of AFLW stars, our students were able to hear from and warm-up alongside many of their idols as they prepared for a busy day of games. On a beautiful sunny day, our Girls participated so well and grew in confidence as the games went on. With so many great marks and goals scored throughout the day, we left feeling motivated to further participate in Footy in the future and learnt so many new skills/ways to connect with the game. We finished the day with 4 wins from 6 games. Great work Girls!

Staff v Students Round 4

On December 7th, our teachers took on the Grade 6 students in our last game of the season. With the staff leading 2-1 in the series, they were eager to finish the series strongly. In a game of Soccer on the oval, the crowd turned out to watch the enthralling battle take place. Unfortunately, it was not the teachers' day.  With Harry Pase scoring one of the greatest free-kicks ever seen, the Grade 6s finished ahead 3-2 and drew the series. Overall, it was great to see so many teachers and students involved in the event. Great work by all, until next time Grade 6's! FINAL SCORE: 2-2

PE @ ST A's

In our PE classes this term, we have had an overarching focus on Leadership & Self Direction. With this in mind, all students have continued to learn how to communicate respectfully and have been provided with opportunities to lead and make decisions. To encourage these concepts our classes have been attempting their last Forest Run attempts for 2022. With such a strong passion for the Forest Run, all of our students have given their best efforts and have shown such a strong commitment to further their aerobic running. On top of this, we have also connected with the FIFA World Cup where classes have been given options to organise themselves into countries to compete in round-robin fixtures of Soccer. Our students have really enjoyed learning about the traditions linked to the World Cup whilst improving their Soccer skills.

From Mr. Butland

Lastly, I would like to thank all parents and students for their hard work and support throughout 2022. In our first full year back, it has been a busy year of Sport and we have been able to achieve so much. I wish everyone the best of luck with all of your sporting commitments over the Summer break and look forward to an even bigger and better year of Sport in 2023.

GO ST A's!

Calendar Updates

Please see the December "at a glance" monthly calendar to help you keep up to date with all our events.

Late Arrivals

All late arrivals must come via the office and sign in. We are happy to assist you and your children at the office. If in doubt, please drop by so we can make sure your child has arrived at school safely. This avoids us from sending you a clarification text. If you have a senior student please remind them they must come via the office to let us know they have arrived at school.

Food & Drinks on the Playground

Just a friendly reminder that no food or drinks are to be consumed on the playground by visitors, parents, or siblings of students. We have a number of students with severe anaphylaxis. Any foods containing milk and milk protein must not be consumed on the school grounds (including all takeaway coffee, drinks in keep cups, etc). We kindly ask for your co-operation, if you have any questions please contact the office.

School Hats

As part of our SunSmart policy hats are to be worn in Term 4. Please ensure that your child has their hat at school.  If you need to purchase a new one they are available at the office.

Prep Excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary

On Monday 5th December, the Prep children, teachers, and LSOs went to Moonlit Sanctuary. Everyone had a fantastic time. The children were keen to explore the maps of the sanctuary and shared all the places they wanted to go to. First, we went on a Wallaby Walk and got to hand-feed the wallabies. Some of the wallabies had small joeys which were snuggled up in their mummy's pouches, much to the excitement of the children. We learned not to feed the joeys as they had a special milk diet. Next, we looked at the carnivores at the sanctuary. This included dingoes and Tasman Devils. After that, we went on the Feathers and Fur guided tour. The children learned about the difference between marsupials and mammals and were particularly interested in the cube-shaped poo of the wombats. They learned that a koala does 200 poos a day and when given the opportunity they were all keen to smell it! Finally, we participated in the Scales presentation where the children learned about pythons and shingle-back lizards. They learned not to touch the head or tail of the shingle-back lizard or it will startle him and he might wee. The children could see the similarities between the shingle-back lizard and a pine cone. The children were wonderfully behaved and very respectful of the adults and animals. We were very proud of them all.
