Last Friday Fr Michael presided over our End of Year School Mass at St Mary’s Church. The Year six students and their Foundation buddies, along with our departing staff members, Kerry Eldridge, Lucy Moynihan, Maddie Searle, Aaron Walters, Cooper Mackay, Kayla Morgan, Lizzi Mc, Amanda Delorenzo and Emily Wallace, began the celebration with a procession leading into the church.

It was quite a moving part of the Mass when seven of our Year Six students sang, unaccompanied, Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord. Fr Michael made mention of the children’s beautiful singing voices as they made their way down the aisle. The whole school then joined in as they reached the altar.

We once again experienced a beautiful celebration where every child and adult was able to participate in one form or another.

Our Year six students, and departing staff, held their candle high during Mass before passing it on to their Foundation buddies or another person. A special thank you to the children involved in the readings, singing, lighting of candles and to our little ones for displaying such reverence during Mass. The passing on of the candle ritual signifies a continued shining light for us to carry. The powerful example of this Sacred Heart tradition was evident with, Henry (Taio’s and Rueben’s Year 6 buddy who is about to commence Year 12 at Geelong Grammer), attending the mass. Joyously their light continues to shine brightly.

To the staff and students leaving us here at Sacred Heart, hold your light high and know that you will always have a special place in our hearts.

This week we entered the third week of Advent.

We light the Pink/Rose coloured candle signifying JOY, this candle is also known as the ‘Shepherds Candle’. Next week marks the final week of Advent and we light the last purple candle signifying Peace. This candle is also known as the  “Angel’s Candle”. It reminds us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.” On Christmas Eve or Christmas Day we light the white ‘Christ Candle’ signifying the life of Christ.
