Calrossy Sports Awards 2023 and Beyond

Calrossy Sports Awards have been remodelled for 2023 and are being aimed at focusing on the Calrossy mission of (sporting) Excellence in a Christian Environment. The changes provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the achievements of students in all areas of Sport whilst maintaining the long, rich history of Sports Awards presented at Calrossy.

Sports Awards will be tiered according to achievement and prestige. Historic sporting trophies, shields, and medals where relevant and appropriate will continue to be awarded to the highest achieving student according to the Sporting Colours criteria.

Sports Awards will be organised into ‘Colours’ as is typical across schools and universities around the world. Calrossy will use its traditional and historic blue, red, and white colours to organise its awards. The highest of the colours being a ‘Calrossy Blue’. Conveniently to Calrossy, the Blue name is derived from the intervarsity rivalry between Britain’s Oxford and Cambridge Universities where a Cambridge oarsman famously tied a light blue ribbon (the colour of his school, Eton College) to his boat in the rowing race. A Sporting ‘Blue’ is synonymous with sporting excellence and achievement in school sports awards.

Each level of Calrossy Sports Award has had criteria developed to ensure the integrity and consistency of awards moving into the future.

A brief summary of the awards:

  • A Calrossy Blue will be awarded for outstanding achievement, and excellence in a sport. (Students will represent at higher than CIS level).
  • A Calrossy Red will be awarded for excellent achievement in, or service to sport/s.
  • A Calrossy White may be awarded to a student who does not, or is unable to represent Calrossy, but achieves excellence in their chosen sport, outside of Calrossy. (See below for the nomination process).
  • Senior and Junior Sportsman and Sportswomen of the year. A Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year will be awarded to a male and female student from the Years 7-9, and Years 10-11 respectively.
  • Perpetual shields / trophies will be awarded to the highest achieving student in the sport from the Colours list. (Example - Suzanne Bloggs receives a Calrossy Blue for Water Polo and the Lorraine Head Memorial Trophy for Waterpolo).
  • Any oversights or missed awards may be awarded retrospectively in future school assemblies.
