Australian History Competition
In June this year, History students from Years 7 and 10 participated in the annual Australian History Competition. The competition has continued to grow since its inauguration seven years ago to involve almost 34,000 students nationally. Students had to complete 50 challenging multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. The questions addressed historical knowledge by utilising source analysis skills and were graded from easy to difficult.
Participation in this competition is voluntary. Thirty-three Year 10 students chose to be involved, as did thirty Year 7s.
I am very pleased to report that more than half of these students achieved highly in the competition and received the following awards:
Year 10

Congratulations to all of these students who achieved highly in the AHC this year. They were recognised for their success at a recent whole school assembly. Other entrants received Participation certificates via their Care Groups.
We look forward to our continued involvement in this worthwhile competition in 2020.

Book Week
Book Week was another exciting week at Endeavour College. While the focus was on celebrating books, we also celebrated the creativity of our students and staff. There was a Hogwarts inspired craft session, quizzes and even a ‘Guess the Shredded Book’ competition. On dress-up day there were plenty of characters filling the school including Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, K1 & K2, Where's Wally, Matilda & Miss Trunchbull, Marianne Dashwood, Pooh Bear & Piggy, Professor Dumbledore and Faculty Professors, Thing 1 & Thing 2, Peter Pan, Dora the Explorer, Red Riding Hood,Cowboy Woody... and many more.
The dress-up day raised over $1000 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who work to reduce the disadvantage experienced by children in remote indigenous communities across Australia, by lifting literacy levels and instilling a lifelong love of reading. We thank the students and staff who donated to this cause.

Science Week
The National Science week theme for schools in 2019 was 'Destination Moon: more missions, more science'. This theme was a way for teachers and students to discover past missions to the Moon and space programs that have solved some of the seemingly unsolvable problem, as well as learn about our current and future space programs, operations and missions. Many of these use big picture thinking in science to solve problems, and technology, engineering and mathematics to design new solutions. This will help forge our future paths in the areas of space operations, space science, Earth observations, positioning systems and communications.
At Endeavour we celebrated with the rest of the country in a variety of ways. Staff celebrated with a moon-theme morning tea. Year 7 students attended the Planetarium as part of their Earth Science and Forces units. They were excited to see the night sky and learn all about the different and extreme weather that occurs on other planets in our solar system. It was also a great opportunity for students to ask questions about outer space and share their general knowledge of the topic. Both in and out of class there were several Science prizes awarded as well as lunch time activities with great prizes on offer. Amongst others, prizes included a Laser X laser kit, a Newton’s cradle and a voice synthesiser. Congratulations to those students who won these prizes.
