SRC Reports
The Student Representative Council have worked hard this semester to support a range of organisations and provide some special events to the student body. At Friday’s assembly we were proud to donate $900 from the funds raised on Harmony Day to Mission Endeavour, as a contribution towards the motor bike they are purchasing for orphans in Indonesia.
At the same assembly we welcomed Jayne Shortt from Saint Vincent de Paul who publicly thanked the Endeavour community for the $870 raised on Op Shop Dress Up Day in Week 2 of this term. Students and staff also filled a Vinnies donation bin with second-hand clothing to be donated to Adelaide’s homeless as part of the Winter Appeal. The SRC orchestrated this day as they felt it was important to support those in need in our own city, as well as those overseas. Op Shop Dress Up Day was a resounding success, which culminated in a red-carpet 'catwalk' held on the Mall stage at lunch time. Students walked the 'catwalk', showing off their Op Shop fashion, to be in the running for a movie voucher. Well done to Lauren Kahl from Year 12 whose turquoise taffeta dress won the judges over!
This week, the SRC are running Encouragement Week, to reflect the theme of the term: Courage. Each day will feature a different activity designed to encourage others to love themselves and empower one another.
Later in the term, the SRC will be coordinating Beyond Blue day in consultation with the Health and Wellbeing Team, as well as another Breakfast Club which is designed to provide a nutritious breakfast to students as they arrive at school. Thank you to everyone who supports us in these ventures and participates in the events the SRC plans.

South Australian Junior Chess League
The SAJCL has begun again in 2018. Endeavour College is once again involved and defending the Division 3 title won last year. In Round 1, Endeavour had a clean sweep, beating Walford Girls (Blue) 4-0. In Round 2 Endeavour drew even with Prince Alfred College (White) 2-2. This puts the Endeavour team in 3rd place after the first evening’s play. With eleven rounds to go, it is good to see we have started the season in such a positive fashion. Rounds 3 and 4 take place this Friday night where we will face off against Prince Alfred College (Red) and Christian Brother’s College (Silver).

Inter-School Debating
The Debating SA competition is being offered for the first time at Endeavour College under the guidance of English teachers, Mrs Davies and Mr Martin. This is an inter-school debating competition, whereby a record number of 62 schools - with over 256 teams compete This is a clear sign that the art of rhetoric amongst our young people is still thriving and that debating is a much sought-after activity!
Endeavour College has entered both a Year 9 (Endeavour Orange) and Year 10 (Endeavour Purple) debating team, with Year 10 student Daniel Goss appointed the student coaching leader. The Year 9 students had their first debate in Week 2 of the term, convincing the adjudicators that ‘Hogwarts makes an idea school’. With a win on the debating ladder the team, comprising Joel Davidson, Chloe Le and Cameron Martin, are keen to consolidate their success at the next round with the topic relating to the merits of helicopter parenting.
Although the Year 10s lost their first debate to Nuriootpa High School, the team of Caiden Randolph, Eduard Kola and Daniel Goss, are keen to compete at the next heat and display their oratory skills. This will be talking place at Adelaide High School on Wednesday evening in Week 6.
The draws and specific timing can be found on the Debating SA website: www.debatingsa.com.au.

'Voice of Youth' Public Speaking Success
This year Endeavour College has had three students competing in the prestigious ‘Voice of Youth’ public speaking competition. Oliver Cox, Year 8 and Year 9 students, Chloe Le and Joel Davidson, delivered powerful prepared and short notice speeches in the regional heat, which was held at Immanuel College on Saturday 12 May. They competed against a number of schools including St Peters College, Seymour College and Norwood Morialta, to name a few. Our students spoke convincingly on a range of topics, including missed opportunities in life, the pitfalls of reality TV and the lack of creativity in schools. All three were outstanding ambassadors for the College and demonstrated an impressive ability to articulate their ideas with conviction. Oliver is to be congratulated on his progression to the semi-finals, and we wish him good luck as he prepares for the next heat this Saturday.
