Grade 7/8 Boys BBQ Lunch
In the week beginning on the 24th September, secondary students will be sitting their examinations for the year. Students will have four exams, to be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They will be receiving exam revision guidance from their pastoral care and subject teachers and have been encouraged to develop a study timetable for the week leading up to exams.
Secondary examinations are primarily an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of preparing for and sitting exams. They are not designed to be a final arbiter of student results, it is a valuable experience that will prepare students for future exam experience in grade 11 or 12 or at university.
In order to make the exams as authentic an experience as possible, students will be assigned an examination number and will sit their exam in the bottom hall. Please avoid this space during the course of the week as it will used for the exams. A timetable will be provided for students. It would be useful to talk to your son or daughter about the way that they manage their study time and any techniques that you have found useful in preparing yourself for similar experiences.
Mrs Arnold will be in communication with Learning Support students and their parents regarding what to expect and how they can prepare for the examinations.
Students are requested to check their lockers and at home for any Saya Bisa 1 Textbooks and to return them to Gym 1.
Grade 11 & 12 students took part in a Caving Expedition last weekend. Students camped at the Mole Creek camping ground and visited the Honeycomb Caves.

An important part of the Duke of Edinburgh award is the “Adventurous Journey”. It involves an expedition or exploration in an unfamiliar and challenging environment, with a clear purpose. More than any other section of The Duke of Ed, the Adventurous Journey is about team work and social connection with both the team members who will undertake the journey, and the Duke of Edinburgh Instructor. Caving is a great sport exploring the hidden world beneath the Earth’s surface, seeing beautiful underground formations and having the adventure of a lifetime.
Our Year 7-8 boys were treated to a special event boys lunch yesterday with a BBQ and guest speaker. We were blessed to have Pastor Graham Sayer from Christian Reformed Church of Kingston come and speak to our boys on the topic of "Being a Real Man." He spoke about the different options that the world presents to us of being a man and how in the Bible we have a picture of the ultimate man; Jesus. It was a good time for all our boys with good food and good reflection. Thanks Graham!

Year 8 got a bit medical in class this week, learning how to make moisturising cream as part of their chemistry unit studying mixtures. Students made up a basic aqueous cream which can be used for moisturising the skin or as a vehicle for delivering other medications in conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. Students also had to label up their cream jar with the legal requirements a pharmacist would have to follow (e.g. batch number, expiry date etc.). Great job Year 8!
'Friday Night Food Drive' has been a great opportunity for Year 9 & 10 Quest students to prepare stress-free meals for the parents of Prep/Kinder children.

This Friday, Grade 9 students will be completing their Quest Service component as follows: A small group will be helping Mr Hindle with some landscaping work, while several others have organised to offer support to teachers in Kinder & Prep/One classes. There are also two students continuing some church-based volunteering at Hillsong Church. Again, we will have one group making pizzas for the 'Friday Night Food Drive' (this week, providing stress-free meals for the families of Grade 2 students). And, last but not least, a group of students will take part in a Kingborough Council initiative, 'Zero Waste,’ whereby students will approach business in the local shopping district for collection of office and media waste (household batteries, mobile phones and accessories, coffee capsules, x-rays, beauty products, media storage and office supplies) to be recycled.
Dr Geoff Downes will visit SCC next Wednesday and speak to our grade 8-10 students. Parents are also most welcome to attend.
We strongly urge ALL Grade 9 and 10 parents to attend! Grade 9 parents are strongly urged to attend so that they are fully informed about the expectations for their child next year when they are in Grade 10.
