Art from Found Objects

Grade 7 students re-used plastic pieces set in resin, to mosaic these little artworks. The works represent a range of ideas, some abstract or simple forms and others reflecting the theme of redemption (appropriate for the rescue of materials that would otherwise be discarded).


SSATIS Athletics Carnival Reminder

 

The SSATIS athletics carnival will be held at the Hobart Domain Athletic Centre on Tuesday 8th September.All participating grade 7/8 students and grade 9/10 boys need to arrive at school by 7:50am for an 8:00am sharp departure.

  • All participating grade 7/8 students and grade 9/10 boys depart at 8am sharp and will return to school at approximately 1pm and will travel to and from the event via bus.
  • Participating grade 9/10 girls will depart school at 11:30am and travel via bus. They will need to be collected by parents from the Domain Athletics Centre at 4pm.

Please ensure students pack a healthy lunch, snacks and water.

 

Students are required to wear the correct College PE uniform to be allowed to compete:

  • SCC PE polo and shorts
  • Sports shoes & white socks
  • SCC PE jacket or soft shell
  • No leggings permitted, and no compression garments that go below the length of shorts
  • Hats & Sunscreen

Due to government requirements and limitations on the size of gatherings and events, parents or spectators are not permitted to attend this event.

RYDA

This Friday 4th September, all Year 10 students will be participating in the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness program (RYDA). RYDA is a community road safety initiative delivering practical road safety information targeting attitude and awareness of young drivers and passengers. The program is facilitated in partnership with Rotary, presented by professionals and supported by corporate sponsors. The Program about road safety is directed towards young people as they approach the period in their life when they start driving a car and ride as a passenger in a car driven by one of their peers. 

The program focuses on attitude and awareness with the aim of making the students better people on the road. Presenters include Road Safety experts, driving instructors, Police, recovering survivors of road crashes and drug and alcohol educators.

If your child has a family history of road trauma, please let their Pastoral Care teacher know by Thursday 27th August as Rotary can provide a Trauma councillor for students if they require it.

On the day, students should:

  • Wear PE uniform
  • Bring a pen
  • Consider bringing any additional wet weather gear in case of rain
  • Bring their own lunch

However, the Rotary will also hold a barbecue for students who wish to purchase their lunch. The cost $2.00 for a sausage in bread. A small variety of soft drinks will also be available for sale at a cost of $2.00 each. Two sausages and a can of soft drink can be purchased for $5.00. If your student would like a vegie burger could you please let their Pastoral Care teacher know so this can be passed on to Rotary before the event.

Pastoral Care teachers will provide more information to students in class regarding transportation on the day.

Indoor Hockey 2020

The SCC Indoor Hockey Competition for 2020 is continuing this week for students in grades 9-12.  Participating students may wear PE uniform for the two weeks of the competition or, alternatively, may bring sandshoes to change into for their games. 

 

This is a great winter competition to encourage student activity and house spirit.  Active participation is encouraged.
