Art Room News

What a wonderful few weeks it has been to have our RHPS Artists back in the art room. It has been truly amazing to see everyone's smiling faces and the excitement to be creating and getting messy again in person.

Since our return we have been making a range of wonderful artwork based on many of the fabulous Book Week books this year.

Our Prep Artists read the story Bat vs Poss by Alexa Moses, and chose to make a bat, possum, cockatoo, magpie or a kookaburra. The Preps worked extremely hard on their Australian creatures and we all enjoyed the story.

The Grade 1/2 Artists have been very busy sharing their emotions through drawing and painting Colour Monsters and putting their textile skills to use by making pom pom creatures.  These have turned out absolutely amazing and are full of imagination and fun.

The Grade 3/4 Artists have been exploring gelli plates to make prints over the past few weeks. Inspired by the Book Week story Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall, the students have created cardboard printing blocks and made wonderful black and white prints. There were many happy students when they pulled their prints.

Our Grade 5/6 Artists have been exploring the world of photography and miniature soldiers. Taking inspiration from the Book Week story The Good Son: A story from the First World War told in miniature by Pierre Jacques Ober, Jules Ober and Felicity Coonan, the students have been working in groups to capture amazing pictures and displaying these to show respect and loyalty to our fellow service men and women. The level of thought and care in these pieces of artwork have been exceptional.

What's next in the art room......

CLAY! CLAY! CLAY!

The next few weeks will be filled with days of clay, paint and mess.

The whole school will begin working with clay to learn and further extend our skills whilst using this medium. Thank you to everyone who has been sending in an old shirt or smock to school. I understand that going to the shops hasn't been an option. If you have an old shirt at home that you are willing to part with, please send it to school, with your child's name on it and it will be kept at school for the remainder of the year.

I hope you enjoy the artwork below and have a great weekend!

Keep Creating,

Mrs. Granger
