Online Learning at Home

Microsoft has worked for the government to produce a suite of online tools that you can use to build your IT skills.

Digital literacy – most school students will already have these, but it is a good place to refresh your skills and fill in any gaps
Office training – learn to use Microsoft tools better. Most organisations use Microsoft for their standard work so these are good employability tools.
Virtual collaboration skills – this is a nice to have on your resume. It may help to put you in front of competitors when going for a job.

Free learning pathways from LinkedIn

LinkedIn has put up online courses that deliver basic skills in each of these jobs. They chose these jobs because they are in high demand and they don’t need a degree to get in on the ground floor.

There are 10 job areas covered and each has a range of courses about an hour long:

These four courses provide and introduction, but you will need more training to work in the field. Data analyst is the most in demand of these jobs.

Curtin College Diploma

Curtin College is a pathway to uni provider based on campus at Curtin Bentley. They offer a range of Diploma courses to assist students with meeting entry requirements for their chosen course of study at Curtin. Upon completion of our Diploma course students will gain guaranteed entry into 2nd year of their chosen bachelor degree.

Our courses are for both domestic and international students and in particularly for students who have not done ATAR and do not meet entry into the University directly.

30 September UWA Auditions for 2021 Entry

Auditions are now open to study at the UWA Conservatorium of Music.

The majors offered at the UWA Conservatorium of Music are:

Music Studies & Music Specialist Studies (Bachelor of Music Performance, Composition, Musicology, Studio Teaching and Creative Music Technology Streams
Music Studies (1st major) or Music General Studies (2nd major) - Performance or Composition
Electronic Music and Sound Design (no audition required)

Auditions will take place on Sunday 20 September 2020 and Sunday 22 November 2020 or can be arranged on an ad-hoc basis (for an additional fee).

Curtin Rural WA Medical School Scholarship

Students who are required to relocate from a regional or remote area of Western Australia to undertake the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Curtin University in 2021 and are experiencing financial hardship.

The Curtin Excellence Scholarships for 2021 are open. Formal applications are not required - students apply simply by selecting an eligible Curtin course through TISC as their first preference.

The Curtin Principal’s Recommendation Award is open for applications from 14 August. It aims to encourage and support students who have chosen to study at Curtin University. Each West Australian high school principal can nominate two students for this award.

UWA Hackett Scholarship

The UWA Hackett Scholarship is valued at up to $20,000 and aims to assist and encourage Year 12 WACE school leavers with great potential to undertake a bachelor’s degree at The University of Western Australia.

Students will automatically be awarded the scholarship if they:

achieve an ATAR in the top 10 per cent of their school cohort (ATAR greater than 60)
list a UWA course as their 1st preference through TISC in the December round offers, and
completed Year 12 at a regional, remote or targeted metropolitan school, are Indigenous or participated in Fairway UWA

This scholarship also provides an alternative pathway for students to attend UWA who wouldn’t have otherwise been eligible.

UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award

The UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award recognises an outstanding Year 12 WACE student who is nominated by their principal as most likely to succeed at university due to his or her resilience, exemplary scholarly attributes and/or contributions to the school and broader community.

The UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award, valued at $1,500, is replacing the UWA Excellence Award from 2019. Eligibility requirements of this new and exciting award have been expanded to encompass a diverse range of student attributes worthy of recognition.

Murdoch Uni News

HorizonsPlus Pathway – alternative entry pathway where students can spend 4weeks on campus in January and gain entry into most 70 selection rank courses while earning 3 credit points towards their MU Degree

Murdoch Ready – All Year 12s graduating this year who achieve WACE and enrol in a full-time Bachelor’s degree at Murdoch next year are eligible for a $1,000 financial support package and have three to choose from (Tech Ready, Campus Life Ready, and Commute Ready)

Widened Portfolio Entry – students are now eligible to apply using a Portfolio pathway for most of Murdoch’s 70 selection rank courses. They must demonstrate their aptitude, receiving a letter of recommendation by a principal or senior teacher, and write a personal statement as well as achieve WACE and demonstrate ELC

Year 12 Uni Entry Safety Net – Students can apply directly to Murdoch now and receive a conditional or unconditional offer based on achievement in their current pathway.

The Good Universities Guide to Nursing

The Good Universities Guide has written about the best universities to study nursing.

Two West Australian universities were among the top ranking. Notre Dame took top place for Skills Development with a 93% satisfaction rate.

Curtin ranked second on graduate salary with students earning a salary of $64,700, not far behind the University of Southern Queensland which took the top spot with a median salary of $65,200 a year.

You can apply for a Defence Force Gap Year in the Airforce, Navy and Army.

The Engineering for Change workshop is an opportunity for year 10 & 11s who are passionate about the environment and who want to know what it's like studying engineering, to learn about renewable energy.
