A group of our Year 12 students are going above and beyond to support others. Abbey Blow, Ella McPhee, Emma Palmer, Laura Dobson, Sascha Charnstrom and Shanae Gibson have created a team to participate in the One Foot Forward fundraiser.

The event is to raise awareness for people who suffer from a Mental Illness.  The team has the goal to achieve at least 60km over the month of October and also to raise $1200 as a group.

Mental illness in Australia

Mental illness is very common. 1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year. That’s more than 5 million people in Australia. The most common of these illnesses are anxiety and depression.

Unfortunately, less than half of all people in Australia experiencing the symptoms of mental illness will seek professional help – often with tragic consequences.

In fact, suicide is the leading cause of death in people in Australia aged 15-44 years. As a community, we need to come together to support those living with mental illness.

This October, during Mental Health Month, we’re putting One Foot Forward for mental health. It’s our opportunity to show those living with mental illness that they’re not alone.

Together, we’re walking in solidarity for people in Australia living with mental illness.
