Middle Years

Welcome back to Term 4. We are excited to be welcoming students back to school next Monday 12th October. This is going to be an important term simply because this has been a year of disruption.

What are our priorities this term?

Firstly, from a wellbeing perspective, this term it is important to reconnect with your teachers and peers; it is time of reconnecting on many levels and communicating well in the classroom.  We want all students to sustain their motivation to learn and enjoy learning.

Secondly, it is important to re-engage and settle. This requires a calm and focused approach by everyone in myPEC this term.

Thirdly, we recognise that we need to meet each student at their point of need. We need to help everyone make a smooth transition back to school, support those who did not progress during remote learning, and support those students who progressed and thrived. The focus is on numeracy, literacy and building knowledge and skills in the lead up to the End of Year Examinations.

Is having a strong sense of wellbeing important?

One of the important themes this year is helping students develop a strong sense of wellbeing and understanding how this contributes to good mental health.

We need to:

  • Cultivate good relationships.
  • Use our strengths.
  • Enjoy things we find challenging.
  • Recognise the importance of our social connections and in accomplishing things.

Wellbeing helps us:

  • stay resilient when times get tough.
  • build social supports and self-efficacy.
  • emerge from challenges even stronger, knowing we can cope with adversity.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone face to face next week, and could all students please read Mr MacLean’s email regarding start up protocols and please team the Year Level Teams messages I sent you earlier in the week.
