Pastoral Care

It will be wonderful to welcome back all our students on Monday. I know the staff have missed the kids just as much as they have missed each other. I asked a couple of my colleagues what they have missed most about not having the students on site.

The noise!

Smiling faces and beautiful hellos. Just saying hello to everyone each day. Real people, not dots on a screen

I have missed my conversations with them, hearing about their weekends, their families, the ups and downs of a typical school day. I miss their energy and watching the way they look out for each other.

I have missed the face to face social interactions that occur at school because they are fun.

I have missed their wonderful smiles and students yelling hello from the very end of the corridors.

Connections with you, playing off your words and actions.

In the first couple of weeks we will be emphasising student wellbeing and connections. It has been 11 weeks since many of our students have been in a classroom with their peers and teachers. Teachers and Mentors have organised activities to support our students reconnecting with each other and helping them feel comfortable as they transition back into the classroom. Please feel free to contact your son’s or daughter’s Mentor if you have any concerns.

THE AROUND AUSTRALIA FINAL RESULTS

Congratulations to the World Champions Berry.  Having arrived back in Hamilton prior to the holidays, Berry took advantage of the break to trot out a lazy 1110km and work off some of those South Australian afternoon teas.  1110kms equates to about 3,700 laps of the school oval.

700km - another disappointing effort from Laidlaw who fell in a heap after their early promise.  Does the term ‘frontrunners’ ring a bell?  Laidlaw battled strong westerlies as they floated from Lord Howe Island towards the mainland.  Spirits rose when they spied the heads at Sydney Harbour.  Unfortunately, they’ve spent the time since tangled in the shark nets off Bondi Beach.

Learmonth thought better of their reincarnation as the ‘sporty’ house and returned a very modest 200km.  They were probably tired after Jock’s 1000km detour via Broken Hill.

Shamed by their performance to this stage, Young pulled out all stops to travel an impressive 1800km which saw them reach the banks of the Murray.  They were last seen umming and aahhing about whether to cross.

The staff discovered that if you walk from your accommodation at Noosa to the beach on a daily basis, you’ll clock up 210km.  You’ll also arrive back at school refreshed and ready to go.

Thank you to Mr Drummond for his witty and most entertaining commentary of this great adventure.
