Exams 2020

Year 10

What a tough year it has been for year 10 students.  Due to lockdown many year 10 students have not even met their semester 2 teachers face to face.  As a result of this we will not be running a full exam program for Year 10 students as we normally would towards the end of term 4.  However we still believe it is important for Year 10 students to have the experience of preparing for and undertaking a fomal examination.

This year all Year 10 students will have a formal English and Maths exam which are the subjects they have done all year.  This will servie a dual purpose, it will provide year 10 students with a formal exam experience and will also provide teachers with some essential assessment data around the development of individual student's literacy and numeracy skills.

These exams will run on the Wednesday afternoon catalyst program time.

English Exam:  November 18 period 3 and 4

Maths Exam:  November 25 period 3 and 4.

We will be running an additional catch up exam time for students who are absent on the scheduled day.

Year 11

We will be running a standard Year 11 exam timetable this year with exams running from November 20th to to November 27th. Students will have a 90 minute exam for each subject they are enrolled in.  The exams are a compulsory part of the course with exam data being used by teachers to understand where each student has made progress and where they still need additional support.  This data will be available to next year's teachers and will enable them to better differentiate the learning for each individual student.

As teachers write the exam papers we are asking them to consider the conditions have experienced with their school this year.  Exams will be designed to test student skill and will be scaffolded in order to develop their confidence.

This is a vital experience for students who are heading into VCE as it  simulates the year 12 exam experience and teaches them to prepare for, and juggle multiple assessments in a condensed period of time.

Students will receive notification of their exam timetable later in the term. Students must arrive in time for their first exam for the day and may leave at the end of their last exam for the day.  If students have a break between exams they must remain onsite, in The Orchard or in the Library.  The examination centres will be the Senior Centre and Rees House.

The Later Years administration team will work hard to ensure students don't have exam clashes and any student who misses an exam due to illness will be provided with an alternative time for completion.

We all know how daunting exams can be and understand that some students may be resistant or experience anxiety.  We ask that parents speak positively about the experience with their students and build their confidence.

Year 12

This should be old news as students have been advised about the exams throughout the year, however we will include a quick summary in case people still have questions.

The Year 12 VCE exam process is a core part of VCE and it is our expectation that all students attend their exams.  Mrs Mingos will be chasing up students who are not in their designated exam seat at the start of reading time.  Please refer to the Unit 3 and 4 UPdate page for a timeline of key dates.
