Message from the Principal

Principal

Whilst Remote Learning has prevented us from doing things in the usual ways, it has promoted our creativity in doing things in new and different ways.

Senior School Subject Selections

An example of this new approach was how the college conducted our subject selections for senior school students. Usually we would hold Parent Information sessions, Subject Expos and then meetings onsite with students to deliver a wide range of information, answer queries and finalise their subject selections.

Senior Subject Website

This year we have delivered the same information via a subject selection website, creating videos and hosting online expos, along with subject selection interviews through Microsoft Teams.

All of these have gone so well that we will maintain elements of them into the future. For example, the videos placed on the dedicated subject selection website have enabled students and parents to access and revisit the information at any time, and not just be reliant on one information session.

I commend our students for the way they have embraced the virtual opportunities to ask questions at the online expos as well as on their preparedness for their subject selection interviews.

Careers Counselling

Our Year 12 students have also utilised their opportunities to engage with careers counselling and to seek advice on the VTAC process.

Brunswick Secondary College warmly welcomes Paolo Familari to the role of Careers Counsellor, replacing Laura Hughes who has commenced Family Leave.

Grade 6 - Year 7 Transition 2021

We will be utilising some of the ideas implemented in the Subject Selection process, such as videos and websites, to welcome our new Year 7 students for next year.

Grade 6 students have been informed of their secondary school and we are looking forward to meeting the 200 Year 7 students who will join our school community in 2021.

Year 12 2020

I think we are all aligned in acknowledging that the unknown nature of this year has been particularly challenging  for Year 12 students.

I want to say how proud I am of them and the way they have approached their final year.  We do not know what will be possible in terms of a 2020 Graduation event,  but we will ensure there is recognition of our Year 12 students in Term 4.

Thank you

Your support this term has once again been appreciated.  I am indebted to parents, carers, students and the  staff of Brunswick Secondary College for working together and staying connected. Please continue to take care of yourselves.
