WHAT HAPPENING @ SCSC

VCE Exams - This Week
Well done to our VCE students on completing their first week of exams! We have heard glowing feedback from our examiners and that students have been working extremely hard. Below is the timetable for this week.
Year 9 Outdoor Education
The Year 9 Outdoor Education classes have been enjoying their excursions of Mountain Biking and Kayaking. The weather has been great (most of the time) and it's great that our students are able to get outdoors and experience new activities and sports.
Below are some photos of our students in Year 9 Outdoor Ed with A. Speed.

Bioplastics Workshop
A group of students from Year 7 and 8 participated in the Ocean Sustainability – Bioplastics workshop last week. This was a very informative activity and the students learnt some valuable facts!
Victorian History Enrichment Program
Congratulations Evelyn C and Hamish H who completed the Victorian History Enrichment Program recently. Students were required to explore a passion area and its historical context.
Evelyn focused on hair and beauty and how hair design has changed over the decades.
Hamish focused on the history of mummification and burial sites.
Clothing Drive for Geelong Mum's
As many of you may be aware a group of our Year 10 and 11 students were supposed to travel to Vietnam and Laos this year to work with small communities to improve their quality of life. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had different plans for us but our students have not given up on the opportunity to help those less fortunate. This term our Antipodean students will be working with Geelong Mum's by donating money from our fundraisers, alongside a clothing/items drive for the duration of November.
Donations can be dropped into the tub outside of the Administration Office (due to no visitors allowed on-site) during the month of November. Geelong mums would appreciate the following most needed products.
Used
- Great quality girls and boys clothing size 5-16 (eg: no rips, stains, missing buttons etc)
- Cot or single bed linen, including blankets
- Sleeping bags for babies
New
- Boys and Girls underwear and socks (size 3-16)
- Shampoo, body wash, nappy cream, moisturiser and bath wash for kids
- Nappies and wipes
- Shampoo and conditioner for adults
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week was celebrated last week 8-15 November.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Surf Coast Secondary College acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work and play on, and we acknowledge and pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
