What's Happening

CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS BACK TO THE IRC!

All students need to have returned all of their library books to the IRC before the end of this week.

Please check carefully at home, in the car, grandparent's house, holiday house, under the bed and even the cubby house!

We still have over 980 books out on loan!

If your child has lost a library book, please inform Mr. Long or Amanda in IRC of  the title of the book and your child’s name, so that the book can be deleted from your child’s record.

PREP PARADE

Last week the Preps completed their unit of inquiry, which focussed on stories, with a special parade in the hall. They were asked to come to school dressed as a favourite story character.

WEDDING OF THE YEAR!

Last week the Preps were also invited to the wedding of Prince Damian Charming and Samantha Cinderella. They were married in Room 8 by celebrant Jai Szabo. Bridesmaid was Destiny Vili. The bride was resplendent in a dress from The House of Crompton and the groom's regal attire was from Trotter and Trotter.

MPS CHOIR PERFORMS A ‘CHRISTMAS CONCERT’

On Monday 7 December, the MPS Choir participated in an excursion where they performed for the residents of two aged care facilities in our local community. The choir had prepared a dozen songs including traditional Christmas carols, alongside some other contemporary melodies. The residents appreciated the youthful enthusiasm shown by our choir members. On the same day, the choir also travelled by train to Oakleigh Central where they attracted the attention of many Christmas shoppers who really appreciated the beautiful singing.

For your diary: A program organised by the Federation Square Education Dept. titled “Festive Harmonies” will feature our choir on the main stage at Federation Square tomorrow between 12.00 and 1pm. All are welcome to attend and support the children in their final performance for 2015.

CANTEEN

***Please note that Wednesday 16 December is the last day for canteen.

We will reopen on Friday 29 January 2016.

LUCKY DIP LUNCHES AVAILABLE!

As it is our final two weeks, our canteen stocks are running down.  Please explain to your child that they may not get exactly the food they ordered from now on.  We will endeavour to supply what is required.  From now on and until the end of year, we will have a Lucky Dip Lunch available. The Lucky Dip Lunches will be $6.50 and will consist of a main meal, plus snack and drink (or frozen treat).

THANK YOU

A big thank you goes out to of all my helpers who have put their hands up this past year.  I truly appreciate all of the mums and dads who have helped out. Hopefully you have had fun and I know your children have enjoyed seeing you there. Thank you to everyone who has made me feel very much welcomed into the Murrumbeena PS community.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday break.  Enjoy the holidays!

See you all again in 2016.  I'll be in touch to work on the roster for Term 1 2016, once I have a list of new Prep mums wanting to help.

SIMUNYE PROJECT

With some of my family living in France and the recent attacks of terror, I felt I needed to do something that showed love, kindness and compassion towards others. I wanted to do the opposite of what was happening around me. I wanted people to experience love and feel joy, not sadness, fear and terror. I had heard of a charity called the Simunye Project. Simunye is a not-for-profit organisation that allows young students to work with underprivileged families and communities in South Africa. In particular, helping babies in an orphanage, the local primary school and the after school care program. I asked the students in my class and my family to help me collect items that will assist these communities. Items such as books, blankets, clothes, stationery items, games and toys.  Simunye Project aims to show the world that young students are prepared to make a global difference. On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to hand over my donations and those of my friends. It was such a good feeling to know that my donations will make an impact on children in need of love and support. Next September, the donations will be taken to South Africa. If anyone would like to join me in making a difference, please give your donations to me and I’ll make sure they are passed on.
