What is a USI?

A USI - Unique Student Identifier is your individual education identifier for life. It also creates an online record of your training attainments in Australia.

If you are undertaking either nationally recognised training, or a higher education qualification, you need a USI in order to receive commonwealth financial assistance, as well as to obtain your qualification or statement of attainment.

So who needs a USI?

Any student studying a VET subject, including partial completion and current Year 12 students applying for TAFE and university courses through VTAC – the USI details need to be recorded through the VTAC account space.

A USI is for life!

You only have to create it once.   Create it, or find yours here now.

Change of Preferences

During specified periods you will be able to add, remove or re-order your course preferences in your course application.

You may want to change your preferences if you have changed your mind about which course you most want to study, if a new course has become available and you would like to add it to your preference list, or if a course you had applied for has been cancelled and you want to replace it in your preference list.

There is no cost involved in changing your preferences. As long as you pay your course application processing fee, you can change your preferences as much as you like within the specified periods.

Tertiary institutions provide a range of seminars, workshops and hotlines to assist applicants with changing their preferences.

The Life after School Guide is packed full of information about local services you might need as you plan for your life after school. The purpose of the guide is to provide secondary school leavers with relevant information about further education options, employment information and services, financial assistance, youth support services located in the area and other information that might be useful when leaving school.

If you plan to leave school before completing year 12, we have also included a section that gives you information about alternative education options. Mainstream school may not be for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue learning and there are lots of other options to assist you with this. Additionally, we have included information about support services for young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and for young people with a disability.
