Campaign for Change

Our VCAL students have been doing a tremendous job regarding social justice.  Here's their project in their own words:

Over Terms 3 & 4, the Year 11 VCAL class were given the task to create a “Campaign for Change”.  This task was designed to raise awareness of the problems faced by the homeless in Melbourne.  We wanted to inform people about their daily struggles, the dehumanisation and the brutality that comes along with being homeless.

Did you know there are over 15,000 children under the age of 12 who are homeless in Australia?  These children do not have access to education and daily necessities, such as food, clothing, hygiene – and being able to maintain it and we wanted to do something about it.

Through our research we have come to learn some of harsh truths that surround what it means to be homeless. By becoming educated about this real problem that happens day in day out; as a collective group we want more people to become aware of the stigmas and help break the pattern and eliminate the problem as a whole.

We want to utilise St John’s social platforms because we thought it would be the best way to spread the word within our community. Allowing students, teachers and families to know what little things they can do to make a change and impact people’s lives for the better.
