Year 2 Report

 

 

Maths

In maths this term, we have participated in a wide variety of hands on and interactive activities across many topics.  We have also been collaborating with our P.E teacher Wayne Schultz to bring together P.E and maths curriculum in engaging and memorable lessons.

We have completed activities such as:

  • Length Throwing Challenge
  • Balancing Scale Activities

It has been a fantastic term of maths fun and learning!

 

Reading

This term in reading students have continued to explore and develop an understanding of key reading skills across fiction and non-fiction texts. We have completed engaging targeted reading activities such as:

  • Digraph/Trigraph Boggle
  • Non- Fiction text Feature scavenger hunt
  • Engaging in group discussions about shared texts
  • Inferencing backpack clues activity

Many of our students have demonstrated an increase in understanding and passion for reading this term! 

 

Writing

In writing this term, we have explored a variety of fiction and non-fiction genres and produced pieces of writing based on these. We have tied in links to inquiry units, grammar focuses and reading concepts to support student learning. Some of these engaging connected tasks were:

  • Perspective Writing: Tiddalick the Frog
  • Creating and Presenting an Australian Landmark Poster
  • Exploring different character traits and creating new characters
  • Constructing accurate recounts of personal experiences

Student have enjoyed writing this term and have produced some excellent pieces! 

 

Inquiry

Inquiry this term, students have explored Australia's natural and constructed landmarks as well as identify states and territories on the map. Students also investigated the concept of where they are in the world and where they have come from. Additionally, we also explored the idea of sustainability and what this means in relation to our lives culminating in our incursion. We have:

  • Created Victorian maps
  • Produced landmark fact files
  • Produced continent/country fact files
  • Sorted natural and constructed landmarks
  • Taken part in the Sustainability waste incursion
  • Modelled Rising Sea Levels

Students have had fantastic experiences this semester in Inquiry!

 

Reminders

  • School start at 8:50 and finishes at 3:10
  • Return all library books, home readers, iPads and chargers
  • Payment for Year 3 book packs for 2021 (due now)
  • Students to bring hats, fruit and labelled drink bottles everyday
