LAF Markets

This term, LAF students held their annual LAF markets. Some of the seniors ran their own food stalls and sold hot chips, drinks and hot dogs. They also had a haunted house as well as a Wii game stall. Students learnt important skills for the real world such as running a shop, exchanging money and serving customers. Students and staff had such a good time in the haunted house, some returning 2-3 times.

Brewongle Excursion

During this half of Term 4, Year 10 and Year 11 students attended the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre excursion. They definitely enjoyed kayaking. They also participated in a range of team building activities which included treasure hunting, testing soil pH and a range of other fun activities which helped them build communication and collaboration skills. Students also enjoyed a BBQ lunch and were able to roast marshmallows over a campfire.

Here's what some of our students thought of the Brewongle excursion:

What was the best part of your excursion to Brewongle?

'The best part of the excursion to Brewongle was the kayaking. It was a fun and relaxing activity. It was my first time kayaking and bush walking. The day made me feel good, relaxed and it also helped me realise the importance of our resources.'
- Reisha, Year 10

How did the day make you feel?

Happy. It was so fun to be out of school and I wish we went there more often.
- Annonymous, Year 10

Would you recommend the excursion to other students and why?

Yes, it makes your day and can help you forget about the school based issues and gives you a taste of the wild life. - Qudrat, Year 11

Yes. It is fun and you can make memories with friends. - Annoymous, Year 10

Naidoc Week Celebrations

On Friday the 6th of November, Evans kicked off Naidoc Week Celebrations by having Indigenous students come around to each classroom to present information about Naidoc Week to their peers. They were very grateful for the opportunity to lead the classes and share their stories. Throughout Naidoc Week, students at Evans had the opportunity to learn how to throw a boomerang and spears. Check out some of the awesome action shots below!

Remembrance Day

In period 3 on Wednesday the 11th of November, the whole school participated in Remembrance Day. Students were in their respective classes and were shown a presentation (see button below) about Remembrance Day. Each class stood up for the Last Post, the Rouse and a One Minute Silence to remember those who lost their lives during World War I and from other conflicts since.

Canyoning Adventure

On Tuesday the 27th of October, eight of our amazing female students participated in a canyoning adventure to help develop strategies for managing emotions. It was an outstanding day that really showcased the girl's skills and resulted in everyone overcoming personal challenges to successfully complete the canyon.

The adventure is not easy with some of the waterfall jumps being almost two stories high and the climb out of the canyon quite grueling. However, not one of our girls gave up, with our guide's stating that even they had a fun day due to everyone being so eager to have a go.

In true Evans style, two of our girls exceeded all expectations and took up a challenge put forward by our guide Bree, to climb to the very top of one of the caves, twice the height of the waterfall and jump from there. Congratulations to Elle and Jenaye for testing yourselves well beyond our expectations.

The program will be continuing for two more lessons throughout the term to support our girl's decision making and goal setting skills. With the long term objective being a higher level of leadership ability and decision making skills for their future.
