This week on Farm we have focussed on two main tasks – Forage conservation and Shearer training (Wool Handling).

Forage Conservation

Mr Falkingham, Mr Millichamp, Mr Morris and Mr Dunlop have been busy mowing, conditioning, raking, rolling and wrapping silage for our Dairy and Beef herds. There are times when student learning is slow and the tasks are of a dangerous nature such as operating equipment in our hills. This is a time for students to be involved but not necessarily driving or operating implements.

Once we commence our production on the flatter pastures and at the old Harvey site there will be more opportunity for student driving and operating of equipment. This is of course the sole reason for the existence of the College (education and learning)  but student safety and welfare is our primary concern when carrying out any task.

Shearing Training

Mr Adams has had the assistance of Kevin and Amanda from AWI with our shearing and wool handling programs. A number of students have been rostered through the Sheep hub and received training in this area. It is a busy time and there may not always be the opportunity for students to get a hands on chance to shear.

We encourage those students to see Mr Dyson so he can reschedule an opportunity for them to attend Sheep in the coming weeks with Mr Adams and Mr McGee delivering more shearer training.

Year 10s on Farm

Today Mr Dyson spoke with all Year 10 students, as it is important everyone understands if there is anything occurring on Farm that they are not comfortable with and cannot resolve themselves then they should speak with Mr Howell, Ms Stringer or Mr Dyson. Our job is to ensure all students receive a high quality education in the safest possible environment.

Certificate III for Year 11 - 2021

All Year 11 students will be receiving application information for enrolment into our Certificate III in Agriculture course for 2021. This same information will be emailed home to all parents as soon as it is available.

Attached are two upcoming weeks of weekend stock. Please ensure your child is available to fulfil their requirement on the scheduled weekend.
