What's Happening in English

Year 7

The Year 7 students have been working on persuasive writing for their last two units. Students have worked hard in analysing arguments in persuasive texts and have developed skills in identifying techniques such as rhetorical questions, emotive language, statistics and expert opinion.

Following on from that, students have developed a persuasive oral to present in front of their peers. This was a chance for students to discuss different topics, build strong arguments, and inform their cohort about and issue close to their heart. 

At the moment, Year 7 students are beginning their film analysis on the Disney film ‘Up’. They will delve into how grief and change are explored through the main characters of Russell and Carl, and will unpack how film techniques are used to influence the viewer. In particular, students will be learning how to respond to propositions: a statement that expresses an opinion.
