Every day Matters
On the 31st of August, Homestead’s athletics team headed out to Newport Athletics Track to compete in the district athletics competition. The Hobson’s Bay Division Athletics is a collection of all of our surrounding schools who compete with each other in events, with the winners of these events qualifying for regionals.
Whilst some students were nervous about competing, the day started off well with students smashing the 100 and 200 metre sprints, starting our day off with wins.In between their events, Homesteaders lent a hand raking sand and measuring distances on the long jump sand pit.
The day concluded with the relay races. Homestead put a few last minute teams together, with two of our three relay teams coming in first place! These teams did a stellar job, leaving the other school’s runners in their dust.
The day was a success with EVERY ONE OF OUR STUDENTS COMING HOME WITH A RIBBON! 🎉
This was a phenomenal achievement and was only made possible by the resilience of all students who gave everything a go and tried their hardest at every event. They embodied every one of Homestead’s values: Purpose, Innovation, Curiosity, and especially Resilience as they persevered throughout the day.
The teachers are so proud of the way each of the students supported and encouraged each other.
Well done to the following students who competed: Zayan, Mantony, Xander, Leah, Alysha, Tia, Mason, Teyaa, Lauren, Annabelle, Vinni, Felix, Maria M, Agar, Maryam, Khushi, Gopal, Kiran, Karsten, Asim, Maria S, Hendrix, Ashton, Joey, Joash and Anthony.
Students in Year 10 and 11 PE classes experienced a High intensity Boxercise session at UBX on Wednesday the 7th of September. Students are currently learning about individual and population behaviour change and are looking into designing training programs. Adding variety to your training helps reach goals through keeping training exciting and not repetitive. The students had a great time, and some are hoping to incorporate boxing into their programs.
It was a great learning experience for someone who's never done boxing before. As a class, we learned a lot about pre-warm up and boxing techniques. The staff at UBX was very helpful in terms of motivating and instructing us to perform better when doing those workout techniques. It was really fun and entertaining in terms of experience wise. We learned about boxing stance and arm movements when punching. Definitely a 10/10 experience for me and my classmates.

On Thursday the 25th of August, students in the Year 12 PE and Y10 fitness/nutrition class attended an elite training centre to observe an elite training session to learn about the fitness components, training methods, principles and training program design by a professional sporting team. The centre was located at The Hangar, which hosts soccer team Western United and AFL team Essendon. As we arrived at the club, the education team guided us through all the roles and responsibilities involved at the club including social media managers, public relations officers and head coaches. They gave us an overview about their roles in the club, how they managed to land that role with their previous experience and what university course they studied. We also got to view players from Western United training and what warm up techniques they use to condition their skills for the game. Using our prior learning, we adapted the different training methods like continuous and circuit to their activities. It was a fantastic day to visually apply what we have learnt over the term!
