Year 11 Camps

Arts Trip

Sixteen enthusiastic students experienced the excitement of the Arts in Adelaide. They took part in visual art exhibitions and tours, a musical theatre workshop, dance workshops (swing and contemporary) and enjoyed theatre and live music performances. It was a full week with lots of walking, great questions and good food! Key themes that stood out were the inclusivity of the Arts and the connections that could be made through each of the disciplines (Music, Art, Drama and Dance). What a great week with outstanding students!

Here is what some of them had to say about their week:

Sohana - I quite enjoyed being able to experience different forms of art. This allowed me to branch-out, find and learn more about myself through these forms. For instance, spending time viewing and interpreting visual art was a different experience for me but something I am really grateful to have been offered. However, the swing dancing was an experience that stood out to me as it was very vibrant and energetic as well as offering a challenge. The teachers were super talented and inviting, creating a safe environment for us to be able to experience swing dancing to its full potential.

Brooke - Arts Trip opened my eyes to different types of art and gave me a new appreciation for unique skills and talents that so many people possess. Our Street Art tour with Leah Grant was really cool and gave me a fresh view of street art and the sheer amount of effort that goes into each design and the time it takes to complete them, with all the steps in between.

Rachel - Arts Trip allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and experience different forms of art. I especially loved the Restless Dance workshop as it allowed me to meet new people of different backgrounds and try things that I never would have tried before.

Chloe - Arts Trip provided an amazing environment, allowing everyone to experience the arts in a welcome, engaging and positive environment. Personally, I found the dance workshops really enjoyable as everyone connected while learning something fun. I connected with people I’ve never connected with before and overall really enjoyed the experience of being in the company of an amazing group and growing friendships.

AJ - The exposure to different forms of artwork carried out by people of different backgrounds was something I personally thoroughly enjoyed. The fact that the group was small, allowed me to branch-off and form new relationships and strengthen the ones I already had. A personal favourite was when we attended a swing dancing lesson, in which I stepped on all of my partners’ toes!

Food Trail Camp

Fabulous students, fantastic food experiences and dodging the rain were key elements of this year's Food Trail Camp - one of four experiences for our Year 11s.

Students experienced food from various cultures included in tastings, tours, market visits, amazing meals and hands-on workshops, as they created Vetkoek at Aunty Meg's Kitchen and Gnocchi with Gemima Fusco.

To break up the fine food expedition, they ventured across Adelaide by foot, challenged each other at Mindshift Escape Room, escaped the rain at Top Gun, rode a section of the Amy Gillet trail, had a mini-golf challenge and other games at Hahndorf.

Aquatics and Monarto Camp

Twenty two Year 11s travelled to Hindmarsh Island to take part in a four-day Aquatics Camp.

Students took part in various team challenges, games, swimming, night hikes, mountain bike riding, surfing, kayaking, campfires, mini-night-Olympic games, a tour of the Goolwa Barrage and finally a day at Monarto Safari Park.

Although the weather conditions were challenging, it did not deter students from getting involved and having fun, experiencing personal achievement, successes and creating lifelong memories.

Lands Trip

Ernabella Anangu School hosted some of our Year 11 students as part of the Lands Trip last term. Students built friendships, learnt Pitjantjatjara, and helped in classrooms. They enjoyed trying many new things including eating tjala (honey ants) and malu wipu (kangaroo tail) and doing painting and weaving with Pitjantjatjara adults. Our students gained a small insight into the extraordinary depth of Pitjantjatjara culture. This was the 27th annual Lands Trip, and we are grateful for the generosity of the Ernabella Anangu School staff and Principal, Aṉangu tjitji (children) and wider Ernabella community.
