Term 4 Sports

Welcome back to Term 4 and the start of our Sports Summer Season!

This term our weekly summer sport programs are commencing for Basketball, Netball, Tennis and Badminton. Registered students have been notified of their match and training schedules.

We have a large number of students involved in these sports across both campuses and it is great to have parents, old scholars and staff assisting and supporting these programs. Their passion and knowledge is invaluable in helping students learn the physical, social, mental and emotional benefits of being involved in regular physical activity of any age or ability level. We are looking forward to student involvement increasing further as well as the physical pursuits we can offer.

Term 4 is extremely busy for our College, with many events and competitions including SACSA, SAPSASA, and state levels. On Friday 21 October, our Junior Primary Sports Carnival for both campuses is being held at the Western Youth Centre Oval on Marion Road. This annual event allows our students to take part in friendly competition and demonstrate their abilities and sportsmanship across a variety of events that they have learnt with Mrs Stewart in Health and PE lessons. We look forward to sharing with you about the success of this event in our next Newsletter.

Other sporting events held this term include:

  • SACSA Year 3-6 Boys and Girls Basketball
  • SACSA Year 5-10 Table Tennis
  • SACSA Year 7-10 Boys and Girls Touch Football - (First time competing as a College)
  • Year 3/4 Hot Shots Tennis Carnival
  • State Golden North Schools Athletics Challenge - (First time competing as a College)
  • Middle School Water Safety
  • House Sport events for sub schools held during school hours

A busy period ahead for those involved!

Adelaide Thunderbirds Session

Our Middle and Senior School College Sport Leaders had the privilege of meeting and interacting with Adelaide Thunderbird squad member Chelsea Blackman (pictured second from the left).

Chelsea was able to give our sport leaders an insight of what it has taken her to reach the highest level in Netball while also achieving and completing her Year 12, and now her University studies.

The students listened and interacted well throughout our time with Chelsea, discussing the choices that she has made, and also choices they will have to make, to fulfill their dreams and ambitions. Chelsea covered various topics that all sport people would have experienced, or had to work through to achieve their best in the sport. These included: life balance, injuries, mental approach in being selected or dropped, physical preparation for matches, training schedules, school work or part time work commitments, and burn out.

We would like to thank Chelsea for her time and willingness to open and share her journey with us. We hope to see her again this term as she may be able to make a special appearance or several to our summer season Netball training sessions.

H&PE teacher Mrs Hunter won the shooting contest that we held, achieving 4 out of 5 shots, showing us all that she still has it, shooting without any pressure. Molly (Year 10) was the next best with 3 out of 5.
