Classroom Reports

Congratulations and Happy 50th Birthday to our Principal, Mr Forrest.

Best Wishes from the Staff and Students at Wedderburn College

Foundation and One

Welcome back to Term Four.

This term in English, the Foundation children have investigated Procedure text. We have discovered lots of different types: recipes, instruction manuals, DIY craft, and instructions for games. We made our own jelly, leaf rubbings and table mats.

In Mathematics, we are looking at Chance. What is the chance it's going to rain this week? Stay dry!

Mrs Chalmers, Classroom Teacher

Year 1 & 2

Welcome to Term Four! This term in Science we are learning about the forces that make objects move. The students will have a homework task to find things in the house that require a ‘push’ or ‘pull’ force.

In some of our Maths sessions we are working on fractions and in other sessions we are practising to read the time to quarter past and quarter to. Whenever you have the opportunity ask your child to tell you the time from an analogue clock. We have also been looking at calendars and how to read them. Do you know why we have a leap year every four years?

Just a reminder to make sure your child’s hat is labelled, especially as they all look the same!

Keep up the reading every night!

Lolly-Jar Winners: Big thank you to all who participated in our lolly-jar competition. Congratulations to our winners, Sianna Thomas and Joan Earl.

Sianna correctly guessed 199 Maltesers in the Jar, whilst Joan was the closest in the M&M count with 1482 being the correct answer.

First Aid: On Friday the 7th of October, our Year 9’s had their First Aid Training. Big thank you to Chris from Stitches First Aid Training Services for conducting the session; our students were thoroughly engaged and are now confident to perform First Aid if needed.

Don Valley: Over the weekend, three excited Year 9 students, Lillian, Ella and Sianna, made the move to the Don Valley Leadership Camp. They will be there for ten weeks. It is such an exciting opportunity for our students. We can’t wait to hear all your stories and see your growth over coming weeks.

Year 11 & 12

The end is here!  Farewell Year 12.

Casting our minds back to January 2010, who would even imagine what your last week of school would look like?  You were all fresh preppies and your school life had just begun.  Your mind was full of fun and adventure.  You were making new friends and learning new independence.  Fast forward to 2022 and we have just begun the last week of Year 12. Time has flown and so many fantastic memories have been created.  Your mind is now full of exam preparation and making plans for your future.

The time is tinged with sadness as you leave behind good friends and great relationships that you have formed with your teachers.  You are leaving what is familiar and stepping into the unknown. The main thing you need to keep in mind is that you are doing your best.  Don’t get to the end of this time and have regrets about what you could have achieved.

Know that as you step off into your future life, you are supported.  You have your network of family and friends and work mates to help you.  You also still have us!  We are here if ever you have questions or concerns.  We are still here to give guidance for courses, careers and counselling.

Footy Colours Day

On the last day of Term 3, Wedderburn College Celebrated with Footy Colours Day.

All students were encouraged to come dressed in their favourite footy or sport colours, with a free BBQ lunch on offer. There were footy, netball and soccer activities to participate in, with the major prize of a brand new football signed by Mr Forrest himself up for grabs. All students who completed an activity received a raffle ticket to put them in the draw for this fantastic prize. The lucky winner of the footy was Zavier Turner. Well done Zavier and well done to all who got involved.

Special thanks to our VCAL students for preparing and cooking lunch and the Year 8 students for planning and running activities for students to get involved with. It was a great way to finish the term.

Mr Pettifer, PE and Year 8 Homeroom Teacher

NAPLAN

We would all remember back in May when students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 completed the NAPLAN tests. These tests give information to parents and students on students level of achievement against National benchmarks. It also give teachers data on how to best cater for students in their class. We encourage all students to do their best in their tests in order to show their capabilities in Literacy and Numeracy.

Throughout the state the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority), which administers NAPLAN and also our VCE external examinations, present certificates to Year 9 students who have shown excellence in either Numeracy or Literacy.

This year our college had one student who achieved excellence in Numeracy on the NAPLAN tests.

Our college community congratulates Lillian Stephenson for achieving this amazing result.

Lillian is a very dedicated to her work and quietly goes about her studies in all her subjects. She has proven to be a very capable mathematics student, who receives extension work in VCE mathematics.

Lillian’s commitment and natural curiosity to learning is great attribute for her to carry into senior years in the College.

This certificate recognizes the hard work Lillian has given to her school work over many years.

Congratulations Lillian on a fantastic achievement!

Mr Fowles, NAPLAN Coordinator

Regional Athletics

Dylan qualified to compete at the Loddon Mallee Region Athletics in Bendigo last Thursday 6th October. He braved the elements with severe wind and rain to compete in the 400m Sprint and Long Jump events. Dylan placed 4th in both events in very testing conditions. Well done Dylan. A big thank you to Michelle Nisbet for supporting Dylan and providing transport to this event.
