HC Music Soiree
Term 4 is upon us and the Music Department is feeling a sense of momentum after a successful Soiree on Tuesday the 11th of October. The concert was an after-school affair in the Auditorium, where students, parents, staff and friends filled the rows in anticipation of our soloists and ensembles.
Our Choir impressed with cheerful pieces from last term’s RUOK Day celebrations like Mr Blue Sky, while our Wind Band performed Movie Favourites such as Jurassic Park and Forest Gump. Our Year 9 Band and VCE Ensemble brought the energy with upbeat and entertaining contemporary numbers like Blinding Lights and Chicken.
This performance experience was valuable practice for our Year 12 students, who recently completed their Performance Exam at Hamilton & Alexandra College. A warm congratulations to Haylie Mibus who was assessed on her vocal performance, and a job well done to the band made up of Year 12 Brendan Mackley on drums, Year 10 Aussie Nicholson on guitar, Year 9 Reed Widdowson on bass, and Mr Shirrefs on piano.
Featured wind soloists at the Soiree included Wilbur Pope on French Horn, Georgia Walsh on clarinet and Will Meyer on alto saxophone. Our contemporary performers were Reed Widdowson with a soulful and captivating rendition of Something in the Orange, and Year 12 Emilee Jones-Pritchard who – as the kids would say - *slayed*with Roy Orbison’s Crying and an original composition Turtledove.
As the first school-based performance night since 2019, the Soiree was appreciated by staff, students and parents alike. The support of our audience makes all the difference, and based on this success there will certainly be more soirees coming our way in the future!
