Reader’s Workshop:

In Readers Workshop this term we are doing Author Study with a focus on authors Bob Graham, Anh Do, Nick Bland, Julia Donaldson and Alison Lester. We will learn about their childhood, background and what inspires them to write as well as the books they have written and illustrated. Students will read various texts by the focus author identifying common features such as illustrations, main ideas and text structure. Throughout the unit we will also continue to revise comprehension strategies such as visualising, inferences, making connections and retelling.

Writer’s Workshop:

In Writers Workshop this term we will continue to focus on the stages of writing including planning, writing, revising and editing. We will be reinforcing and practising the correct use of punctuation and grammar and exploring the structure and features of persuasive texts. Students will learn about different types of persuasive texts including news articles, book reviews, letters and advertisements. We will also have a unit on poetry and will learn the features of different types of poetry such as acrostic, haiku, colour, sense and shape.

 

Speaking and Listening:

In Speaking & Listening, students will be learning how to ask good questions, project their voices by speaking clearly and further develop their listening skills. 

 

Maths:

In Number, students will be focusing on sharing and division. Year 1’s will represent practical situations that model sharing and Year 2’s will recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations. We will introduce fractions and practise recognising and describing some simple fractions of shapes and collections. In Non-number, we will learn about chance and probability, identifying outcomes of familiar events and using the language of chance. We will also look at the features of various 2D and 3D shapes.

Inquiry:

This term our inquiry topic is “Where is Australia?” Our key objectives are: 

  • To investigate how Australia can be represented on a map such as states and territories
  • To explore the features of Australia
  • To explore some of the traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
  • To explore what makes Australia unique

Parent Reading:

This term we are very excited to be welcoming volunteers back onsite at ACPS to begin parent reading. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you are interested in helping out.
