Newsletter

We enjoyed welcoming students back to school on Monday and have spent the week settling into classroom routines. Staff are feeling refreshed after the break and are ready to tackle a very busy term ahead. Some of the upcoming highlights include:

  • Surf lifesaving and water safety incursions
  • Swimming
  • Foundation transition sessions
  • Fitzroy Arts Festival
  • Grade 6 graduation

Preparations are also underway to vacate George St and move across to the Napier St building in November. An external provider will help us move during a weekend when it is much safer to negotiate the stairs, given that staff and students won’t be in the building. We are still seeking a team of parent helpers to support teachers with packing resources into boxes and will publish more information about this through Compass closer to the time.

Child Safety update

This week we ran a Child Safety standards update for all staff. The Child Safe Standards require organisations involving children to have policies, procedures and practices to keep them safe. There are now 11 Standards, which include new requirements such as:

  • involving families and communities in organisations’ efforts to keep children and young people safe
  • a greater focus on safety for Aboriginal children and young people
  • managing the risk of child abuse in online environments.

You can view the school’s policies and relevant documentation on the website by clicking here.
