Arts & Technology Week

Nossal High School’s inaugural Arts & Tech week was a huge success, featuring many of our talented ensembles and a variety of activities for all students to take part in.

The Winter Ensembles Concert was the main event for the music department, with 140 of our very own developing musicians showcasing their talents through performing in ensembles. The evening was filled with various genres of music, from jazz to classical, and greatly entertained the audience of parents, teachers and fellow students. During the week, ensembles also made appearances in the main building to entertain the masses during recess and lunch time! This gave the opportunity for all students to listen to their peers.

The dot-to-dot posters dotted around the school also demonstrated how all students could take part in the week’s festivities. On the whole, the combination of activities such as Theatre Sports, Dance and Photography, with musical acts made the week a fantastic example of the broad range of The Arts our school has to offer.

Group Art

One of the many fun activities that students participated in during the recent Arts/Tech Week was the large “dot-to-dot panels” throughout the school of mystery people associated with the Arts.  The panels were distributed around the campus and students were encouraged to contribute to the line drawings over the week to help the subject emerge from the blank page.

One such panel was a drawing of Judy Garland (pictured) in her role as Dorothy from the movie, “The Wizard of Oz”, a topical subject considering our own very successful season of The Wiz at the end of Term 2.  Our Nossal High School Arts Leader, Tithi is pictured here marking in a few additional details to the large line drawing.

Arts & Technology Highs and Low

This year we had our most successful Arts and Technology Gala ever. We had a greater breadth of Performing Arts on display, and many more families attended the event than in previous years.

On display in the foyer was some stunning work from Year 9 Art, Year 10 Design, Unit 1 & 3 Visual Communication Design, Year 9 & Year 12 Food Technology and Year 12 Integrated Technologies. Students from Years 9 and 10 thrilled us with displays of dance, drama and music performance.

Arts and Technology Week was a great opportunity for students to participate in creating art works in the hallways, discover themselves in Theatre Sports, hear music performed by the music ensembles and challenge each other in the great cookie bake off.  It was fabulous to see the way students and teachers embraced these events.

The Winter Ensembles Concert was a great success, with over 140 performers showing the hard work they’ve been putting in to rehearsals since the beginning of the year.  Well done to all the students and teachers involved.

We would like to thank the families of our talented students who came to support, view and listen to their children. It is very important that our students perform their music and drama in front of an audience and we appreciated your generous applause.

I would like to say a very special thankyou to Ms Samantha Crust who led the Arts Technology domain through this wonderful event. Unfortunately for us, Ms Crust has accepted a wonderful opportunity and therefore, resigned from Nossal High School. The enthusiasm and energy she brought to Nossal for Drama and English will be greatly missed.

Concert Band gets a Gold Award!!!

On Monday evening, the Nossal Concert Band participated in the Victorian School Music Festival, held at the Hawthorn Performing Arts Centre.

The band performed for two adjudicators, and received an onstage tutorial from Chief Adjudicator Sally Davis who is currently the Head of Music at the International School in Shanghai.

Both adjudicators commented on the excellent tone and blend of the ensemble, and the ability of the band to phrase and work together.

The students’ performance and the way they represented the school while listening to the other performing ensembles was absolutely something to be proud of.  At the end, Nossal was presented with a Gold Award.  Well done to all members of the Concert Band.
