Literacy 2017

Literacy at St James in 2017
We've had another busy year, with classrooms always buzzing when it comes to the Literacy Block. It has been so lovely getting the chance to work across the school with small groups and classes during Reading and Writing sessions. Our children have a love of reading, and I'm always blown away by their beautiful writing.
I'd like to say a big thank you to five people who are very passionate about English teaching and learning: Cathy Busch, Nancy Ohlert, Jessica Chapman, Stacey Nelson and Olivia Quinlan. As a Literacy team they have shared their knowledge and ideas, and they are always looking for ways to share the love they have for Literacy. I'd also like to thank all the teachers at St James for the new learning you've undertaken this year, the ongoing assessments, the dialogue you've engaged in and the love of learning you bring to your classrooms in the Literacy block each day.
Once again the amazing writing of our students was showcased in the Shared Stories 2017 Anthology. It was wonderful to see such variety in writing and the excitement our students displayed when they found their published piece. Congratulations to Willow Bailey who received the St James Shared Stories award for her piece 'War Story'.
We are so proud of the results our students have achieved in their end of year assessments, measuring the growth of each student and how far they've come in a year is exciting for us to see. Especially our clever Foundation students who have finished the year off with fantastic results.
See you all in 2018!
