VCAL - MOVIE NIGHT

On Thursday the 21st of March, VCAL students hosted a movie night at Mount Eliza Secondary College, a successful night was had by all. The movie of the night was ‘Back to the Future’. There was loads of food to devour and perfect weather to enjoy. VCAL would like to thank Mount Eliza Meats, Bakers Delight, Mr Inflatable’s, Rustic Pathways, as well as everyone that helped out on the night and of course the people who attended. All money raised on this night will be going towards our Community Service trip to Fiji in September.

Wonthaggi HPV 24 hour Endurance race

The Mount Eliza Racing Team took part in Wonthaggi HPV 24 hour Endurance race on the 23rd March. It was an epic event for us, entering 6 teams for the first time and taking 55 students. The students performed admirably with the year 7’s learning the importance of a good night’s sleep. The senior boy’s team, Unicorn Hunters and the all-female team, Luna Chicks both took awards in Design and Construction.

HPV is an exciting event that everyone should participate in. Building the vehicles is one of the best things as you get to build it to look anyway you like.

The race is simple but there are some speedy ones in the race who don’t tolerate slow trikes, sadly I had to learn that the hard way. Our team was great supporting each other in every way including being strapped in properly before racing and making sure everyone knew what to do. It was a great weekend.

VCE STUDENTS – DEVELOPING A PERSONALISED STUDY ROUTINE/TIMETABLE.

With Term 1 holidays quickly approaching we have been encouraging ALL our VCE students to start reflecting on their learning outcomes from Term 1 and thinking about what their “holidays” may look like in terms of revision and further consolidation of their learning. It is strongly recommended that students develop their own personalised study time table to guide and support this process over the holiday period.

In order to assist with the creation of this, we are encouraging students to take advantage of the many workshops running across the state for varying VCE subjects and also, those that may be run by their teachers

Below are the internal classes running by VCE teachers at the college throughout the holiday period for Unit 3 & 4.

ELEVATE – STUDY SKILLS AND TIME MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS

Year 10 – 12 students will have the opportunity to partake in a series of workshops run by a company called Elevate during the first few weeks of Term 2 . Elevate work specifically with students to assist them with developing effective study techniques as well as improving their time management, exam preparation skills and overall self-management throughout the duration of their VCE studies.

YEAR 12 CAREERS APPOINTMENTS

It is important that ALL Year 12 students make an appointment with Leanne Paterson to discuss their options for 2020 and beyond as soon as possible.  Whether it be University, TAFE, Work, Apprenticeships or Traineeships or GAP year programs – all options can be discussed and choices explored.  It is important that you are PREPARED!

It is important to plan, research courses and institutions, ensure you meet all pre-requisites and essential requirements and admission criteria. Do you have a current resume? Have you completed your Career Action Plan (Career Tools website)? Do you have a Tax File Number? All of the above plus more will be discussed during your interview.

VTAC applications (for University and TAFE entry for 2020) will open on 5th August along with SEAS (Special Entry Application Scheme – Special Consideration) and Scholarship applications for University entry.  VTAC is the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and is the central hub for tertiary course applications in Victoria.  All VTAC information will be delivered in early August to students.

All students from years 9 through to 12 will be visiting a Careers Expo, being held at Chisholm, Frankston on 21st May.  All Victorian Universities, TAFE, ADFA and various industry representatives will be present.  This will be an excellent opportunity for students to gather and confirm information and ask one-on-one questions.  It is also vitally important to attend University OPEN DAYS.  Dates will be advertised shortly through the Careers Newsletter.

For more information on any of the above, please don’t hesitate to contact either of the Senior School Leaders on the below contact information
