STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Student Leadership Camp

On Friday March 22nd to Saturday March 23rd, the leadership team were lucky enough to go to a leadership camp held at Don Bosco Camp in Dromana.

The camp was full of team building activities such as the human knot, making a dinosaur with our body parts (in a group) and more. We also had lots of valuable planning time and chances to organise things in groups.

We had to make SMART goals (meaning that the goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely) for the year and decide what we wanted to achieve being a leader. I took so much out of this and now I am more aware of the type of leader I can be for 2019. We also made team goals and identified our strengths and barriers to help us understand how we could achieve our goals.

On Friday night we played an awesome trivia which was organised by our two library leaders Belle and Bella. The trivia was challenging but every team was certainly eager to win! One of my highlights from camp was going to the beach. It was so great to have everyone there together enjoying themselves in the beautiful weather.

On Saturday morning we were very privileged to be visited by members of the Lions Club who had a look at all of the goals we had been working on over the camp. It was great being able to discuss our ideas with them. We also did a presentation where students would present their work to the principal team, teachers and Lions Club members. Our parents were also invited to come for lunch on Saturday so it was really good getting to meet the families of the leadership team.

I would like to thank the Lions Club for their generous donation towards our camp and for coming down on Saturday to look at our work. Without the Lions Club our camp would not have been possible. I would also like to thank Mrs Claringbold, Mrs Williams and Mrs Swannell for taking time out of their own lives to organise and run such a wonderful camp and for getting all of our delicious food!! Once again, this camp would not have been possible if it were not for all of you. Lastly, I’d like to thank the principal team for coming down on Saturday. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Another one of the many fantastic things that comes out of being a leader is getting to go on the leadership camp! Overall the camp was an amazing experience and it was so great getting to know each other. I knew everyone so much more at the end of the camp than I did at the start!

COMMUNITY NEWS

Our two school captains, Tom Gibson and Oliver Heavey, participated in a Leader Community News project published this week, in which all school captains within Melbourne were asked "What difference can your generation make to the world". Judging by their responses, and that of others, our future is in very good hands.

"Gratitude is an often overlooked property...(it) promotes an appreciation of the past... it brings peace for today and creates visions for the future."

 Oliver Heavey

"We must have courage, have gratitude and be continually hardworking if we are to unlock what truly lies within all of us"

Tom Gibson
