PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and members of the MESC Community

This newsletter article brings much to celebrate about our government education system.

This week, twenty-four of our local primary and secondary schools held a joint teacher professional learning event focusing on making improvements in reading and writing outcomes for our students. It is now a well-established feature of the government schools system that we work together, share best practice and take joint responsibility for the success of all young people in our collective care.

This sense of commitment is now matched by a new approach to school zoning, which means that every school has a designated zone. This guarantees enrolment for all who live within that zone and it is based on the belief that every school provides a good educational option for students and families.

That said, there are differences between schools, and when parents tour Mount Eliza Secondary College, the points of difference I discuss are as follows:

  • MESC is a medium sized school which allows for a calm environment and a genuine capacity for staff to know students as individuals
  • MESC places the students first, and we involve them in genuine opportunities to have a say in all that occurs at the college
  • MESC achieves excellent results in VCE, and does this whilst accepting all students into the program and supporting each of them to achieve their potential
  • MESC demonstrates high performance and high learning growth as measured by NAPLAN
  • MESC offers a very broad range of extra-curricula opportunities, and these are available to all students, rather than to a select few

I am very proud to lead the Central Peninsula Network of government schools as Network Chair, and I am certainly proud to be the Principal of this great school.
