Principal's Report & Swimming Carnival

Principal's Report

Last week we held our annual Cowra High School Swimming Carnival. I want to start by congratulating the students and staff. The carnival was an outstanding success with students getting into the spirit of the event and having a go. In fact, the participation of students in the competitive and the fun events was outstanding. It was especially pleasing for me to speak to so many students who were describing the day as “fun”. Regardless of whether a competitive swimmer or not, swimming carnivals should be fun. I also congratulate Jade Browne, Georgia Lewis, Finn Ryan, Matthew Dun & Lucy Wilson on setting new Cowra High records. Outstanding! Thank you to Jessica Finn for organising such a wonderful carnival.

Speaking of swimming carnivals, I want to acknowledge the effort put in by Tim Berry’s Stage 5 PASS class who acted as officials at the Cowra Small Schools’ Swimming Carnival. Reports from the organising primary teachers was that as well as being extremely respectful and helpful, the students were also extremely efficient in their duties. Well done.

Last week I had the great pleasure of attending the Lions Youth of the Year competitions. Cowra High had three worthy competitors; Olivia Perkins, Jemma Pokoney and Andrew Barker. All three were great ambassadors for Cowra High, speaking with knowledge, humour and passion. Of course in any competition there needs to be a victor and I congratulate Jemma who won both the public speaking and the overall competition. We wish her all the best in the District competition.

As well as our Year 11 competitors we also had four Year 10 students, Sam Long, Drew Willis, Xavier Gauci and Maisie Thompson who spoke for 2-3 minutes each to get a feel for the competition for next year. I was extremely impressed with each of their speeches - they displayed ability beyond their years. Thank you Mrs Meiklejohn and Mrs McLean for organising our students for this great event.

To finish, I wish Year 12 the best of luck for their Mid Course exams which start on Monday. Remember, you will only get out of them what you put in.

Have a great fortnight

Swimming Carnival

On the 14 February Cowra High held the school swimming carnival at the Cowra Aquatic Centre. We had a number of competitors in events throughout the day with students breaking a number of previous swimming records. The participation levels by all students was great to see, where students who were not competitive swimmers still got involved in the novelty events, such as the belly flop competition and the iron man challenge. Overall, it was a great day for all who attended with Cowra High School being the definite winner on the day!
