Term One off to a great start

What are our Year 7 students saying?

Year 7 has started off to an amazing start. Thanks to our Year Advisers Miss Cupac and Mr Wilcox as well as our teachers, who have made our first few weeks very enjoyable to settle in and feel very welcome to Cecil Hills High School.

We have learnt to adapt to the high school learning system as we are moving to each class independently and learning different subjects and having different teachers throughout the whole day. It is very new for us as we are only in Week 6 Term 1, but hopefully we will get the hang of the transitions happening.

Now it's time to get to the fun stuff, the swimming carnival! It was great as we got the opportunity to go and take a day off class work  and support our house teams (Hollows, Whitlam, Goolagong and  Chisholm).  We enjoyed going down the different slides, competing in races and spending time with our friends as we just started Year 7.

We are looking forward to the different sports and groups happening that we can participate in and try out for -  such as soccer, basketball, netball, AFL and much more. I think it's a good way for Year 7’s to try out so they can make more friends and communicate with their year group as some may not be familiar with people in their grade.

One of the events we’ve had so far, was the Year 7 Barbecue. We got our parents to meet all our different teachers and talk about how we are doing in class. When we got there we were greeted by the year advisers and some of the teachers..

When we found out there was a Year 7 camp happening Term 2 Week 1, we got really excited!  We immediately paid for it. We are really looking forward to this exciting event and can't wait to meet new friends. Also, have an amazing time with friends and teachers.

We are also excited for the Athletics Carnival. The Athletics Carnival is going to be an amazing event because we get to race people and get some points for our teams. We get to chant for our teams and get points for our house. We are also excited for the other activities such as high jump, long jump, shotput, discus and track relay .

I hope you all are able to see how our high school life has been going so far . We are really enjoying this experience and change; can't wait to see what the future holds for us as Year 7’s.

Parent teacher barbecue, swimming carnival, slushies, funny valentine’s songs, two hours’ worth of Aquatopia, all things that will be the highlight of my first few weeks at Cecil hills High School.

Being in a different school with a whole bunch of different people I have never met before was a big change, but now I have a whole group of friends and I’m not afraid to put my hand up and speak during class discussions. During the past few weeks, it took me time to remember my different classes and teachers, as I was so used to only having one teacher and one class to enter every morning. It has taken me a few days to fit in, but some things I’m still kind of getting used to, it is a big school and 18 year olds around me. My daily routine has changed as has the amount of work I receive every single day.

Attending this school is one of the best things that has happened to me and I’m so lucky to wake up every single day, get ready, wait in traffic before I get to spend six hours around friends and teachers.

My first six weeks at Cecil Hills High School have been incredible! We did a variety of things in class and attended swimming carnival and Valentine's Day! In Week 1, we were escorted into our classrooms with our teachers and were introduced to our new school. From Week 2 till Week 6 we had to walk to our classrooms. In between Weeks 1-6 we had a swimming carnival and Valentine's Day. At the Swimming Carnival we were able to access adrenaline rushing slides and were able to cheer on our team and earn points by entering in multiple races. On Valentine's Day we got to listen to some Year 11 students sing a lot of songs at the quad and we were able to receive gifts by someone special, like friends, best friends or family.

It is now already Week 6 and that I can say it has flown by.  I remember the first day of high school and I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t even certain I was prepared for this at all. This was all a new experience for everyone and for me, it's been fantastic.

The swimming carnival was held on Wednesday 6 February and It was absolutely awesome! It had the most fun going to the water park and riding on the slides. It was also entertaining to see people racing and everyone cheering them on.

All the teachers have been so welcoming to us since the start and they have already taught us so much and it’s only the beginning. We already got to do so many experiments in science class and it modified my view on the subject, science. This experience has changed my view of many things in a positive way. Cecil Hills High School has already shown me such a lot of things in a small amount of time and I can’t wait to see what's going to come in the future!

My first few days of Year 7 -  our teachers would meet us near the canteen to direct us to class until we settled in. The school is big so sometimes I got classrooms confused. In science we did really cool experiments and I’ve learnt quite a lot, same with a lot of other classes. One of my favourite parts so far was the swimming carnival. The swimming carnival was a time me and my friends could have fun at the water park and go down big slides. So far Year 7 is awesome!!

I woke up knowing that today was the day. Excitedly, I got ready and told my dog “Today is the day!”. I put on my new uniform with pride and I knew I was ready for high school. I put on my new backpack and begged my parents to hurry up. I was virtually the youngest in my whole family so I was one of the last people to go into high school. Years and years, hearing about my cousins' achievements and their stories. This year will be my year. The year of the rat, the first year of high school, NAPLAN, the start of a new decade. I knew that this year would be the most exciting of them all.

The school was crowded with new students rushing to the gym door, excited and waiting for high school to finally start. I entered the gate. I took everything in. The leaves on the trees, the concrete on the floor, the crowded playground and the beautiful white uniform. Looking at all my friends’ schedules, we had all the same classes. From then on, stories were worth telling, new friends were made and the old ones stayed with us.
