At the end of last year students collected donations for several worthy charities and areas of the state in need. The collections were driven by the Year 7's (Giving Tree) and Year 9's (Hamper items). Staff and students were pleased to be able to visit these charities to drop off the donations, and also visit Bowraville to deliver Christmas presents to St Mary's students.
"On Wednesday 11 December, a small group of SPX students assisted with the delivery of the Christmas Hampers from St Anthony’s Parish to the Burdekin Association.
The Burdekin Association is an institution that aids young people in the community who are struggling or doing it tough. The Burdekin Association runs several programs to support young Australians in the foster care system, single mothers, and young people who need full-time or part-time care/assistance.
For us, Christmas is a time of celebration, happiness and giving, so the Burdekin Association helps to provide youth with toiletries, food and simple presents at this time of year. Through this type of work they not only brighten the futures of many young people but they also just make Christmas a special and happy time for Australians who are doing it tough.
Another collection of hamper materials was delivered by Mr Brannan to the Parish we visited on the Red Dirt Expedition in Bourke remote NW NSW. It was gratefully accepted by Mrs Gordon of their Social Justice Committee. Bourke- Brewarrina- Louth Parish is a sister Parish of Our Lady of Dolours, Chatswood."
