Wellbeing

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am very excited to share with you all the wonderful whole school initiatives we have adopted here at St Simon the Apostle under Wellbeing.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

You would have read in the previous newsletter that we have adopted the whole school framework titled Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). We  are currently in our first year of implementation where students are learning about School Expectations highlighting the actions and behaviours  we are explicitly teaching and reinforcing through our school PBL Matrix. You would have seen a copy of the Matrix in a previous newsletter so please become familiar with it as your child will be coming home and sharing their learning and news with you. To reinforce the expectations we have adopted a PBL ticket system which will operate throughout the whole school. Students will be rewarded  with a PBL ticket as a reinforcement of the positive behaviour they are displaying (according to our PBL Matrix). Their PBL tickets are then placed in their class jar and throughout each term there will be various ticket draws and different rewards.

The Resilience Project (TRP)

The Resilience Project (TRP) is now entering its third year here at St Simon the Apostle School and students are truly enjoying learning about GEM (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness). Students are engaging with and learning strategies to build resilience and happiness and easy ways to practise these in everyday life. We also incorporate Emotional Literacy, Connection and Physical Health education and activities as they are foundational contributors to positive mental health.

On Tuesday afternoon we had an online Parent and Community Presentation being offered to allow all parents and carers an opportunity to find out more about what their children are learning through their participation in The Resilience Project.

Thank you to those who attended the presentation. If you were unable to attend, the link to the recording can be accessed here. Please note the link to the recording will expire on the 5th of April.

Thank you very much for all your support and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact myself via email: hedy.carvalho@ssrowville.catholic.edu.au or Ph: (03) 9755 4222.

Yours truly
