Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

We are extremely proud of our Prep students, they have started the term off wonderfully. From following the Big 10 Essential Habits to supporting each other outside in the forecourt, they have shown great growth and have built a community within Prep. We are looking forward to a term full of learning and adventures together. Please see below some highlights from the week. Well done Preps we are all so proud of you, keep up the great work!

Year 1

The Year One teachers are proud of how well our students have settled into Term 2 and the fantastic learning that has taken place. The "Sanctuaries for Survival" science unit and the "Back in My Day" humanities unit of work have been particularly engaging, sparking curiosity and providing valuable insights into the natural world and the past. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey with our amazing students.

Year 2

The Year 2 students have settled in well to Term 2 and have demonstrated their enthusiasm for the new topics that we are learning about. In Science, they are developing their knowledge of habitats in relation to butterflies. This week, students used their skills of observation to identify the different plants in our own school. They went out to the forecourt with their pencil and paper to draw life-like sketches of the plants. Upon their return to the classroom, students coloured in their sketches to add detail. They thoroughly enjoyed spending time in nature and identifying plants. Also, the cohort is very excited because our seeds have begun to germinate!

Year 3

In Science this term, our unit in Year 3 is Creature Features, where we will learn about the life cycles of plants and animals. To kick off our learning, students planted their own broad bean seed using a Ziploc bag, paper towel and water pipette. The beans are hanging in their bags on the windows of our classrooms. We are watering our plants weekly and enjoying checking on them regularly to see the growth of their roots and leaves. Be sure to check out our beans on Family Fridays!

Year 4

The Year 4 students have made a fantastic start to Term 2. They have been very excited about starting our new book, 'The Legend of Podkin One-Ear', and have already worked hard to make predictions about the story, understand how the author describes the characters and plan their own paragraphs to describe a character of their choice. In Maths, we have started our focus on multiplication and division. The students are demonstrating their knowledge around how these operations are related, as well as improving their quick recall of multiplication facts. We can't wait for a great term of learning in Grade 4!

Year 5

The Year 5 students have had a great start to Term 2. They have returned back to school refreshed and ready to learn. In English, we have started our new novel called Tom's Midnight Garden. Many of our students have been reading aloud extracts from the novel for the class. It has been great to listen to them reading in a loud and clear voice. We were learning to answer questions about the novel using evidence from the text. The Year 5 teachers were really impressed with their answers using this new skill.

Year 6

The start of Term 2 for Year 6 has been exceptional, with students displaying a keenness and excitement for learning following their break. In their English class, they have begun reading Tom's Midnight Garden, taking turns reading portions of the novel aloud. It has been heartening to witness their reading improvements, as they develop into confident readers. Through the story, the children have discovered how 'time' is a core theme, and how it influences our experiences and relationships. As a group, we have begun to explore these connections and have started making predictions for upcoming chapters.

We evaluated our Passion Project plans before beginning the process of finishing the artwork. We carefully selected colors and patterns that would represent the meaning behind the piece and used a range of traditional and contemporary techniques to create texture and depth. Throughout the process, we continued to reflect on the cultural significance of the artwork, ensuring that we were respectfully portraying the story behind each piece. In the end, we were able to create meaningful and culturally significant artwork that honored and celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Aboriginal people.

Overall, it has been an exciting and successful start to Term 2 for the Year 6 students, and we look forward to seeing their continued progress throughout the term.
